Diletta Carli
Born May 7, 1996 Diletta Carli is an Italian swimmer that has represented Italy at numerous competitions including the European Championships and World Youth Championships. Carli is most known for her results as a junior/youth swimmer – as only a teenager, but she’s broken into the world rankings and has made her first Olympic Team.
Carli breaks Italian Youth Record
Carli experienced her breakout season in 2010, when she made her first international apperarance – she broke the Italian Youth Record in both the 200m freestyle and the 400m freestyle.
Senior breakout
Her first major medal was won at the 2012 European Championships, where she won gold as a member of the 800m freestyle relay. Later in the year she swam at the European Junior Championships, where she won gold in the 400m freestyle and broke the meet record in the event.
2012 London Olympics
After winning numerous gold medals across the junior scene, Diletta was selected for the 2012 London Olympics – she competed on the 800m freestyle relay that featured both seasoned Olympians and newcomers like herself.
Academic Award
In the summer of 2013 Carli achieved excellence both in and out of the pool – she won the 200m freestyle at the World Youth Championships in Dubai, and was rewarded with an Academic Award along with four other athletes. The award celebrates women in sport awarded during a ceremony that was dedicated to ending violence based on gender.
2013 season
At the Mediterranean Games in 2013, she earned two medals including a gold in the 800m freestyle relay and a bronze in the 200m freestyle. In 2013 she was the World Youth Champion in the 200m freestyle. She competed later in the year at the World Championships in Barcelona as well.
2015 World Rankings
Carli swam at the European Championships in Berlin, making it into the final of the 400m freestyle where she finished eighth. In 2015 Carli is one of the world’s top-10 fastest swimmers in the 400m freestyle in 2015.
