Belgium’s Florine Gaspard swam to a new national record in the women’s 100 breaststroke on Monday morning, touching in a 1:06.89. That broke the previous record of a 1:06.97 set by Fanny Lecluyse during semifinals of the 2019 World Championships.

Split Comparison

2025 Worlds- Florine Gaspard
2019 Worlds- Fanny Lecluyse
50 31.33 31.85
100 35.56 35.12
1:06.89 1:06.97

Gaspard was out over half a second faster than Lucluyse was six years ago. Gaspard was able to hang on to sneak under the record and earn the win with an outside smoke out of lane nine in heat four, the first of the three circle seeded heats this morning.

Gaspard swam the 14th fastest time of prelims and will have a chance to swim even faster during semifinals tonight. She entered the meet with a lifetime best 1:07.21 that she swam at the 2023 French Championships. Her entry time of a 1:07.58 came from the 2024 French Championships.

She notably did not swim the 100 breaststroke at last summer’s Paris Olympic Games. While in Paris, Gaspard only swam the 50 freestyle where she finished 15th in semifinals. She is scheduled to swim the 50 free, 100 free, and 50 breast later this week in Singapore.
