Ava Buhrman Wraps Up St. Mary’s City Sectionals With Two More Victories on Day 4

Ava Buhrman of Cumberland Valley Aquatic Club wrapped up a weekend of fast racing with two more individual victories on the final day of competition at the 2026 St. Mary’s City Sectionals.

Buhrman got her hand on the wall first in the girls’ 200 back, throwing down a personal best time of 1:55.90 to clinch the win by almost two full seconds. The 15-year-old took 1.17 seconds off of her previous lifetime best (1:57.07) from back in December, blowing past the 1:56 barrier to break into the 1:55 range for the first time.

Buhrman’s performance marked the 18th-fastest time in the country this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group.

Later in the session, Buhrman completed a sweep of the IM events by prevailing in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.99, shaving .68 off her lifetime best in the event. Her performance launched her up the national ranking once again, landing her at #11 on the list of top times this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group.

Buhrman was the only competitor in the field to break the 2:00 mark, as she raced into the wall over three seconds ahead of runner-up Amelia Gipson (2:02.38).

Buhrman’s double victory on Sunday night brought her total individual win tally for the meet up to five. Earlier in the competition, she won the 1000 free (9:51.87), 100 breast (1:01.74) and 400 IM (4:12.47). She also took 2nd in the 200 breast (2:13.55) and 5th in the 500 free (4:59.59).

Day 4 of the competition saw Buhrman help Cumberland Valley to a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, joining teammates Addison Buckman, Mary Boone and Josephina Ruiz to stop the clock in 1:36.70. Buhrman, Buckman and Boone joined forces again in the 400 medley relay alongside teammate Brooke Boland, with the squad placing 3rd overall in 3:51.84.

Other Day 4 Winners and Highlights

  • Nittany Lion Aquatic Club prevailed in the girls’ 200 free relay in 1:34.13, thanks to the team of Molly Workman, Molly Staniar, Ellen Woodruff and Isla Reite.
  • Hauppauge Swimming’s team of Brennan Morelli, Ernest Czeremcha, Chris Sweeney and Tyler Gallub prevailed in the boys’ 200 free relay with a time of 1:23.58. Meanwhile, Lancaster Aquatic Club’s Brody Reber turned in a notable performance as part of the 3rd-place relay; he anchored in 19.88, which was the fastest split in the field and is over .7 faster than his lifetime best in the 50 free (20.60).
  • Mercersburg Academy’s Matt Krause prevailed in the boys’ 200 back with a best time of 1:41.18, racing into the wall six seconds ahead of runner-up Reber (1:47.24). Krause’s performance marked his second victory of the meet in the backstroke events after also winning the 100 back (47.31).
  • Molly Workman of Nittany Lion Aquatic Club won the girls’ 50 breast in 28.46 after posting a personal best time of 28.32 during prelims.
  • Nation’s Capital Swim Club’s Chuck Katis completed a sweep of the breaststroke events, winning the boys’ 50 breast in 24.41. He was the only swimmer in the field to break 25 seconds.
  • The girls’ 100 free title went to Elizabeth Gregory of Williamsburg Aquatic Club, who turned in a lifetime best time of 50.61 to break 51 for the first time.
  • Liam Mac Colla of 92nd St. Y Flying Dolphins clinched the title in the boys’ 100 free, stopping the clock in 44.88 and marking the only sub-45 performance of the night.
  • Rockville Montgomery Swim Club’s Maximus Devinney won the boys’ 200 IM, posting a personal best time of 1:48.83. He shaved .38 off of his previous lifetime best (1:49.21), racing into the wall a full second ahead of 15-year-old runner-up Cullen Cashman (1:49.87).
  • Gregory picked up another victory in the girls’ 50 fly, winning in a best time of 24.81 and logging the only sub-25 performance in the event.
  • Clinton Cupples of Southern Maryland Aquatics raced to victory in the boys’ 50 fly, turning in a time of 21.87 to claim the title.
  • Sunrise Swim Club’s Olivia Parent won the girls’ 1650 free in 16:54.00, dropping four-and-a-half seconds and securing the victory by over 11 seconds.
  • It was a sibling sweep in the distance events, as the boys’ 1000 free title went to Alex Parent of Sunrise Swim Club with a winning time of 9:21.47.
  • The girls’ 400 medley relay title went to Germantown Academy Aquatic Club, as the team of Amelia Gipson, Grace Bell, Avery Holzer and Arden Keitel stopped the clock in 3:48.79.
  • Nittany Lion Aquatic Club walked away with another relay victory thanks to the team’s performance in the boys’ 400 medley relay; Leo Garlicki, Evan Summers, Evan Koehle and Luke Flickinger combined for a winning time of 3:22.32, clinching the victory by over three seconds.
