Backstroke and Freestlyler Angelina Lu Commits To Columbia For Fall 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Angelina Lu from Cary, North Carolina has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Columbia beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to continue my academic and athletic career at Columbia University! I would like to give a tremendous thank you to Coach Ethan, Coach Jenni, and Coach Brent for their dedication and guiding me to where I am at today. And a big thank you to my family, friends, @swimrsa, and my teammates for their never ending love and support through this journey. Lastly, thank you to Coach Diana and Coach Demerae for giving me this remarkable opportunity. I can’t wait to be a lion! #ROAR”

Lu swims for Raleigh Swim Association and most recently competed at the Southeastern Meet of Champions. There she swam to numerous best times including a 1:53.37 200 free, 27.04 50 back, and a 25.75 50 fly.

Just last month, Lu swam at the North Carolina High School 8A State meet and was 8th in the 100 fly (56.88) and 10th in the 100 back (57.34). She also swam on two relays for Green Hope High School, splitting a 23.65 anchor leg on the team’s 200 free relay that was 2nd as well as a 24.21 anchor leg on the 200 medley relay that finished 4th.

Lu’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 back: 2:00.05
  • 100 back: 56.29
  • 100 free: 51.87
  • 200 free: 1:53.37
  • 100 fly: 56.77

The Columbia women finished 7th out of eight teams at the 2026 Ivy League Championships. Ashley Hong led the team with a 62 individual points including a 6th place finish in the 200 breast (2:14.19) and 8th place finish in the 100 breast (1:02.37).

Based on her best times, Lu has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level. Her best time in the 100 and 200 backstrokes would have made the conference ‘C’ final. Columbia had two ‘B’ finalists and two ‘C’ finalists in the 200 back.

Lu will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Romy Kirby, Mary Bao, Katie Shaps, Maebelle Stern, Brisa Gao, and Madeline Gau.
