Remarkably, 17-year-old Shin Ohashi has downed yet another World Junior Record while competing at the 48th All Junior Olympic Spring Competition.
Racing in the short course meter 100 breaststroke, Ohashi crushed a lifetime best of 56.65 to win gold and make history once again.
He handily defeated a talented young field, which included Yusei Imaizumi putting up a still-impressive mark of 57.18 followed by Rio Omori who captured bronze in 57.80.

As for Ohashi, his 56.65 stunner shaved .01 off the former World Junior Record of 56.66 that world champion Simone Cerasuolo of Italy put on the books at the 2021 Italian Short Course Championships. It also sliced .14 off Ohashi’s previous lifetime best of 56.79.

The teen now represents Japan’s 4th-fastest men’s SCM 100 breaststroke performer in history.

Ohashi’s new benchmark comes just a day after he blasted a new WJR of 2:01.24 in the SCM 200 breaststroke at this competition.
This caliber of performance is par for the course with Ohashi. Throughout last year and into 2026, the prodigy has fired off monster swims, which, along with the likes of young teammates Kazushi Imafuku, Tatsuya Murasa and Tomoyuki Matsushita, are putting the world on notice that, after a few years in a slump, Japan is once again on the rise.
Ohashi now owns four of the six possible boys’ breaststroke World Junior Records.
