Repton junior Austyn Manley swam to a second personal best in less than 12 hours in the 200 back at the 2026 Aquatics GB Championships, clocking 2:01.37 to erase British record holder and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Luke Greenbank‘s age group record from 2013.
Manley had already lowered his best by nearly a second this morning, clocking 2:02.50 to slice 0.94 seconds off the 2:03.44 he swam at this meet last year. That stands as the British record for 14-year-olds, and he went on to win gold at the European Youth Olympic Festival last summer in 2:04.84.
Tonight, he hacked another 1.13 seconds off, touching 2nd in the junior final in 2:01.37 to take 0.68 seconds off Greenbank’s record from the summer of 2013. He will not age up until after the summer championships, so could take this record to new heights.
He ranked 12th among British 15-year-olds coming into this meet in 2:04.84, moving up to 2nd after his morning swim of 2:02.50.
Men’s 200 Back, British 15-Year-Olds Top Five
- Austyn Manley (2026) – 2:01.37
- Luke Greenbank (2013) – 2:02.05
- Charlie Hutchison (2017) – 2:03.19
- Joseph Patching (2010) – 2:03.30
- Dean Fearn (2023) – 2:03.33
The 5th-fastest swimmer on that list, Dean Fearn, took the win in the junior final ahead of Manley tonight in 2:00.47, under the European Junior Championships qualification time of 2:01.20. Manley just missed that standard with his swim, but will have two more years in the junior ranks.
All three backstroke records for the 15-year-old age group have been broken this week. Patrick Przyczyna lowered the standard in the 50 and 100, clocking 25.68 and 54.92 respectively.
This is the second age group record set by Manley this week. He lowered Jarvis Parkinson‘s 200 IM record on Day 4, clocking 2:04.58 to shave 0.28 seconds off the record.
Manley owns six age group records across the 13, 14, and 15-year-old age groups.
