The 2026 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships are taking place this week, with the thrilling action set to kick off from the London Aquatics Centre tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14th.
This six-day affair represents the primary qualification opportunity for British swimmers to etch their names onto the nation’s roster for this year’s European Championships and also plays a role in swimmers earning the chance of representing their Home Nation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Of note, the B-Finals and Junior Finals will see their session begin at 6pm local (1pm ET) daily, while the A-Finals and Para finals will take place later in the evening, beginning at 7:45pm local (2:45pm ET).
Regarding the European Championships, a squad of a maximum of 40 swimmers may be selected, with a maximum of four selections per individual event and one relay team per event.
The selection policy linked above indicates that athletes having achieved a medal in an individual event at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships will be selected; however, Ben Proud represented the sole medalist (silver in the 50m free) and has since moved on to pledge his allegiance to the controversial Enhanced Games.
As such, all roster slots will be determined from first-place finishers in the open finals of these championships, as long as the athletes achieve the qualification time listed in table one below. The second-place finishers will also be selected, subject to the swimmer meeting or exceeding those same time standards.
As with all Aquatics GB qualification systems in the past, there is room for discretionary picks at the hands of the Aquatics GB performance coaching brain trust. With that in mind, we won’t know the final list of qualified athletes until all has been done and dusted and the coaches convey their picks.

Some swimmers have opted to take in some tune-up racing ahead of these championships, including at the Edinburgh International Meet and the Giant Open in France. Olympic multi-medalist Duncan Scott also raced at the McCullagh International in Ireland.
Two standout performers from this season already are Angharad Evans and Freya Colbert, both of whom rattled the all-time British rankings as they wasted no time getting their 2026 year of racing underway.
22-year-old Colbert established a new national record of 1:54.98 in the 200m freestyle in Edinburgh last month, while Evans logged near-lifetime bests of 1:05.46 in the 100m and 2:22.02 in the 200m breast to rank 2nd in the world in both so far this season.
Adam Peaty, Filip Nowacki, Scott and Oliver Morgan have already taken to the pool this season but will look for this key selection competition to put their tapers to work.
As a refresher, two swimmers who will not be attending these Aquatics GB Championships are Olympic medalist Tom Dean and his 2024 Olympic teammate Alex Cohoon. Both announced via social media that they will not be racing due to health issues.

Some promising times this morning. Peaty looks on form, 3 under 60 is good in the heats. 100 free for women is at a new level. 9 under 55. Pbs for Colbert, Shlosshan, Wood, Little, Rogers. Fastest in 3 years for Anderson. Still think Taylor wins tonight. Big pb for Idle-Beavers in 50 breast and the 400 for men and 200 fly for women should be humdingers.
Adam Ramsay (nee Peaty) 59.30. That’s bettter than I thought he would go in the prelim.
Boy I wonder what form PEATY, ADAM will show up in
God, are we emulating relay names guy now? Is that a thing we are doing?
GB could really do with some new young talent making an impact. The top GB world medal winners from recent years are ageing, evidenced by an underwhelming performance, with just 2 medals, at last year’s worlds. And maybe the women need to step up and make more of an impact on the medal count
Think the main storyline is can the juniors who performed so well last year step up at trials and make their first senior international team, especially with this year being Euros/Commonwealths where the standards aren’t nearly as strict as Worlds/Olympics.
Also looking forward to Freya Colbert and seeing what she can throw down after being so strong in season. Would love to see her go sub-54 tomorrow.
Not many new world class swimmers in GB. Almost all of them have been there 5-10 years ago. Of course some people who qualify but not Peaty Scottt calibre.
Yep, until the record breaking crop last year our juniors had been pretty dire for 7/8 years. 2014 Commonwealths in Glasgow was a revelation for GB (Peaty, O’Connor, Murdoch, Guy all broke through there) so I am hoping history repeats itself.
A functioning live results page, I must be dreaming.
First update since, what, 2006?! Hopefully Swim Scotland do the same soon, their live results system must be from about 1990 and routinely updates 24hrs after the event lol.
I really hope that theres some huge breakout swims this week, it seems like the UK has been on the decline since Tokyo 2020/21. Would be exciting for some young talent to take over, also is Adam Peaty actually going to go sub 1:00 on the 100Br
