Amelie Blocksidge Shatters British Age Group Record in 1500

2025 European Junior Championships

Amelie Blocksidge won the girl’s 1500 freestyle in 16:10.23, breaking the British 16-year-old record in the event, and exactly tying her time from a year ago.

GIRLS 1500 FREESTYLE – FINAL

  • World Junior Record: 15:28.36, Katie Ledecky (2014)
  • European Junior Record: 15:55.23, Merve Tuncel (2021)
  • European Record: 15:38.88, Lotte Friis (2013)
  • Championship Record: 15:55.23, Merve Tuncel (2021)
  • 2024 European Junior Champion: Amelie Blocksidge (GBR), 16:10.23

GOLD – Amelie Blocksidge (GBR), 16:10.23
SILVER – Emma Vittoria Giannelli (ITA), 16:13.11
BRONZE – Vivien Jackl (HUN), 16:17.42

Blocksidge defended her European Junior Title from last year, touching in 16:10.23 to win the event by almost three seconds.

This broke the British 16-year-old age group record of 16:28.49 by almost 20 seconds.

In an interesting turn of events, her time tonight was exactly the same as the time she swam to win this event at this meet last year, and to set the 15-year-old British age group record, meaning the 15 and 16-year-old records are the same time.

Blocksidge’s best time in the event stands at 16:10.04, which she went last February when she was still 14.

She now holds the 13, 14,15, and 16-year-old National records, and even if she continues to go this exact time, she is still under the 17 and 18-year-old records as well.
