Alex Perkins Sets Second Oceanian Record In Two Days With A 54.93 In The 100 Fly

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

Alex Perkins, a double medalist from both the short course and long course world championships last year, seems to be carrying her torrid form from last season straight into her swims this year. For the second time in 24 hours, the USC Spartans swimmer set a new Australian and Oceanian Record, this time in the 100 fly.

Perkins placed 2nd behind World Record holder Gretchen Walsh, touching in 54.93 to shave 0.17 seconds off her previous mark of 55.10, set when winning bronze at the 2024 Short Course World Championships. She was out slightly slower than in that swim, but managed to keep both of her final 25s under 15 seconds to come home 0.29 seconds faster.

Split Comparison

2024 World Championships – Budapest 2025 World Cup – Carmel
25 11.64 11.78
50 25.51 (13.87) 25.63 (13.85)
75 39.94 (14.43) 39.95 (14.32)
100 55.10 (15.16) 54.93 (14.98)

Perkins set a new continental mark in the 50 fly yesterday, taking four-hundredths of a second off the record with a swim of 24.64, which also placed her 2nd behind Walsh.

Perkins was on an absolute tear last year, breaking 57 seconds in the long course 100 fly for the first time in June last year, before taking bronze at worlds in 56.33. She also took silver in the 50 fly, along with a silver medal as part of the women’s medley relay.

She now jumps up out of a three-way tie for 9th all-time to rank 8th, just 0.06 seconds behind Louise Hansson. Her swim tonight also ranks as the 16th-fastest in history.
