WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Devin Brindle and sophomore Ellie Reinhart both won two individual events, as the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team defeated Sacred Heart 180-120 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 9-5 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Reinhart won the 100-yard backstroke (59.20) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.51), in addition to taking second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.29).
• Brindle claimed first place in both the 100-yard freestyle (54.20) and the 100-yard butterfly (58.67).
• Other Crusaders to finish in first place included junior Kat Anticev (1,000-yard freestyle / 10:49.33), sophomore Nora Herbstzuber (100-yard breaststroke / 1:08.69) and junior Megan Nelson (200-yard butterfly / 2:10.93).
• Holy Cross also won both the 200-yard medley relay (Reinhart, sophomore Josie Gieseman, Brindle and senior Nora Smillie / 1:49.22) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (senior Ainsley Nalen, Smillie, junior Courtney Boghosian and Brindle / 3:40.17).
SENIOR DAY:
• Prior to the meet, four senior members of the program who will be concluding their collegiate careers at the end of the 2025-2026 season were honored in a special ceremony.
• Seniors Lauren DeLucia, MaryKate Loveless, Ainsley Nalen and Nora Smillie were all recognized.
UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 31, when it travels to Providence for a 1 p.m. meet.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Jack Greiner placed first in three individual events, to lead the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team to a 198-102 victory over Connecticut College at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Crusaders improve to 4-2 on the year with the win, while the Camels fall to 6-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Greiner posted first-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.81), the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.35) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.94).
• Sophomore Griffin Casey won both the one-meter diving (287.40) and the three-meter diving (319.50).
• Other Crusaders to win individual events included junior Will Clark (50-yard freestyle / 21.73), junior Austin Cutcher (1,000-yard freestyle / 9:50.00), sophomore Peter Mottolese (100-yard freestyle / 47.51), freshman Ethan Steichen (100-yard backstroke / 52.78 ) and freshman Andrew Villani (100-yard butterfly / 51.70).
• The 200-yard medley relay team of Greiner, senior Zach Bubonovich, Villani and Clark broke the Hart Center Pool record with their first-place time of 1:32.70.
• The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mottolese, Clark, sophomore Luca Sgaramella and junior Jake Thompson also placed first (3:11.20).

WORCESTER, MA – The Sacred Heart University Women’s Swimming and Diving team delivered a spirited performance at the College of the Holy Cross in a dual meet. Despite a valiant effort marked by multiple event wins and personal bests, SHU fell to Holy Cross 180-120.
First-year Ryleigh Mahoney led the way for Sacred Heart with a great day on the diving boards. She won both diving events, taking first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 273.83 and the 3-meter dive with a 315.98. Sophomore Phifey Boyers also had a strong performance with a third-place finish in the 1-meter dive. Sinclair Yadao competed well in both events, finishing fifth in the 1-meter and fourth in the 3-meter. The divers gave Sacred Heart a strong start to the meet.
In the sprint events, senior Emma Davis had an impressive showing. She won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.34 and followed that with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.69. Junior Sophia Velleco stood out in the freestyle races, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.02 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.84.
First-year Maddie Goret continued to shine in several events. She won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.08 and also took first in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:12.67. Goret added another strong swim by finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke, showing her ability to compete in different strokes.
The relay teams also had solid performances throughout the meet. The 200-yard medley relay team of Maddie Goret, Maggie Holland, Emma Haas, and Sophia Velleco finished second with a time of 1:50.99. Sacred Heart’s 400-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Emma Davis, Emma Haas, Maggie Holland, and Sophia Velleco, also placed second with a time of 3:41.72. The B relay added a third-place finish in the same event.
Other Pioneers also stepped up across the lineup. Senior Charlotte Kaduson finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:57.13. Junior Abby Hernandez placed third in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard butterfly. First-year Izzy Torello competed in the 1000-yard freestyle, while sophomore Makayla Lee raced in the 200-yard butterfly. Kristen Baker had strong swims in the backstroke events, Daniella Palamaro competed in the breaststroke and individual medley, and Maeve English added depth in the freestyle races.
Sacred Heart faced tough competition from Holy Cross, but the Pioneers showed good effort throughout the meet. Several first-year athletes played big roles, showing positive signs as the team continues through the season. The Pioneers will next travel to the Spire Academy in the Buckeye State for the MAAC Championships, scheduled for February 11–14.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 13 Connecticut College men’s swimming and diving team fell by a 198-102 final against Division I Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
The Camels came away with four individual wins on the day. Carrick Shea (Grafton, Mass.) posted a pair of first-place finishes while Aiden Miller (Westfield, N.J.) and Jack Mattison-Gulotta (Florence, Mass.) also nabbed victories.
Shea was first to the wall in the 100 breast (56.44) and 200 breast (2:04.81), winning both events by a combined .21 seconds. He also finished as runner-up in the 200 IM (1:54.71).
Miller took first place in the 200 free (1:43.48) and was a close second in the 100 free (47.77). Mattison-Gulotta took home the win in the 500 free (4:47.32) and also took second in the 200 fly (1:53.03).
Evan Lyons (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) also recorded runner-up finishes in the 1,000 free (9:51.15) and 1M dive (282.00), respectively.
Conn (6-1 overall) will next swim at Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m.
