How It Happened
Rhode Island won three of the final four events of the meet as it pulled away from Central Connecticut State 163-137 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. Overall, the Rams (4-6) won nine out of the 15 events.

Freshman Molly Beckwith – who won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams – got the late run started with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly. She dominated the race with a time of 57.74 seconds, making her the lone swimmer in the race to finish in less than one minute.

Senior Olivia Winslow made it two wins in a row when she took the 3-meter diving event. Her score of 306.23 was more than 10 points ahead of the field. Earlier in the meet, Rhody took the top two spots in the 1-meter dive, as freshman Emily Whiteneck scored 280.05 to edge Winslow (276.45).

Central Connecticut State got a win in the 200-yard individual medley when Addison Kenney finished in 2:09.72. However, URI took the next two spots as junior Julianna Tyler (2:11.66) and senior Sarah Koenig (2:14.53) finished strong.

The team of Avery PotyralaRylee KellyEmma Raser and Molly Beckwith closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay for the Rams. The quartet posted a time of 3:34.77 to secure the team win.

Standouts from the Pool

  • Before the meet, Rhode Island honored six women competing in the Tootell Aquatic Center for the final time. Lily HsuRylee KellySarah KoenigAvery PotyralaOlivia Winslow and Abby Zadorozny were recognized in the Senior Day ceremony.
  • Freshman Molly Beckwith won both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle races.
  • Additionally, she teamed with Julia HaviceMaddy Deeney and Emma Raser to win the 200-yard medley relay to start the meet.
  • Beckwith’s fourth win of the day was the 400-yard freestyle relay along with Avery PotyralaRylee Kelly and Emma Raser.
  • Freshman Maddy Deeney picked up an individual win to go with the 200-yard medley relay victory. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:07.54.
  • It was her second individual win of the season.
  • Senior Rylee Kelly won the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 54.50 and added a third-place finish 100-yard freestyle.
  • Junior Julianna Tyler was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly with her time of 2:07.49. She also provided a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.
  • Sophomore Emma Raser was part of the winning teams in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay races. She added a second place in the 100-yard backstroke and a third place in the 200-yard backstroke for a solid day.

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team completed the dual meet portion of its 2025-26 campaign at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell 163-137. 

Sophie Milhomens and Maggie Rutledge both won twice on Saturday, as part of seven individual victories for the team. Jewelle Maziarz scored 294 points on 3-meter, breaking AnneMarie Durham’s 2017 school record.

RELAYS 

  • Grace M. Young (54.82), Gabby Spaciano (54.41), Dunnigan (53.73) and Milhomens (53.72) took the second spot in the 400 free relay, 3:36.68, to close out the meet 

DIVING 

  • Maziarz was second on the 3-meter board, with her school record, while Carroll amassed 272.03 points to finish third 

STROKES 

  • Milhomens gave the Blue Devils a second win on the individual side, capturing the 100-backstroke in 58.21 with Francesca Fusco placing fourth in a time of 1:00.35 
  • Milhomens picked up the sweep of the backstroke events with a winning 2:05.32 in the 200 backstroke, followed in second place by Fusco (2:08.64) and a fifth place showing from Mackenzie Talbot, who swam 2:18.18 

  • Grace Young was the runner-up in a tightly contested 100-breaststroke, clocking 1:07.65, .11 seconds off of the winning time 

  • Grace Young triumphed in the 200-breaststroke, winning in a time of 2:25.11, .89 seconds in front of the runner-up 

  • The Blue Devils were 2-3-4 in the 100-butterfly, led by Kenney who touched at 1:00.19, with Dunnigan next at 1:00.44 and rounded out by Kyla Behrle at 1:02.15 

FREESTYLE 

  • Maggie Rutledge won the 1000 freestyle, leading almost the entire race, and winning with a time of 10:32.49, 15 seconds clear of the runner-up 
  • Grace M. Young was the fastest in the pool in the 50-freestyle, going 24.76, with Kenney third at 25.16 

  • Rutledge claimed the top spot in the 500 freestyle as well, winning in 5:13.51, with Spaciano third in a tie of 5:18.55 and Hannah Kretkowski finished fourth in 5:23.18 

  • Izzy Vega captured third place with a 10:54.85 effort in the 1,000 and Sophia Pincince added to the scoring with a fifth place showing, in a time of 11:10.85 

  • Grace M. Young finished second in the 100-freestyle at 54.08, with Spaciano earning a point with her 55.68 to place fifth 

  • Dunnigan (1:57.32) and Spaciano (1:57.55) were second and third in the 200 freestyle 

NEXT UP 

  • The Blue Devils turn their attention to defending their three consecutive NEC Championships. The 2026 version of the meet will be held at Spire Institute in Ohio, February 17-20th.
