LEXINGTON, Va. (January 16, 2026) — Howard University women’s swimming & diving team competed in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Francis, 215.5-63.5, and host VMI, 187-109, in Lexington, Va.
Senior Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.), junior Chanice Posada (Houston), sophomore Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) and freshman Brooke Whitt (Chicago) opened the afternoon with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, clocking in at 1:44.75.
Individually, Posada took home three gold medals in the 100 Fly (55.96), 100 Back (55.35) and 50 Fly (25.14).
Whitt won a pair of races in the 50 Breast (30.03) and 100 Breast (1:05.89). Fellow classmate Kaelyn Mitchell (Mobile, Ala.) also competed in the same events, taking bronze in both races with marks of 31.02 and 1:08.29, respectively.
Senior Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and rookie Alyssa Napier (Wilmington, Del.) finished first (23.62) and second (23.88), respectively, in the 50 Free. Nwaeze also won the 100 Free with a 50.63 time.
Third-year Bison Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) and sophomore Francoise Hall (Montreal, Canada) placed first (27.31) and third (29.14), respectively, in the 50 Back.
Senior Kali Garcia (Altamonte, Fla.) and rookie Julianna Gibson (Elk Grove, Calif.) claimed gold (5:11.55) and bronze (5:20.86), respectively, in the 500 Free.
Freshman standout Zenya Posada (Norwalk, Conn.) grabbed the top spot with a 1:55.77 mark in the 200 Free.
Newcomer Mia Patton (Nassau, Bahamas) and senior Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) placed second (10:48.04) and third (10:48.67), respectively, in the 1000 Free.
Freshman Faith McCallister (Abington, Md.) took silver in the 200 IM (2:13.83).
Benoit, Sharrieff, junior Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) and sophomore Seannia Norville-Smith (Nassau, Bahamas) closed out the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay (1:40.13).
On the board, junior Jala Wilson (Richmond, Va.) won bronze in the 3-meter dive with a 181.35 score.
On Jan. 31, HU faces Catholic on Senior Day. First race is scheduled for 1 p.m.
LEXINGTON, Va. (January 16, 2026) — Howard University men’s swimming & diving team fell on the road at VMI, 214-85, in Lexington, Va.
Despite the setback, HU grabbed a pair of individual victories.
On the board, sophomore Zion Wilson (San Antonio) finished first in the 1-meter dive after scoring 264.38 points. The San Antonio native also competed in the 3-meter dive where he placed third overall (238.95).
In the pool, second-year Bison Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.) came away victories in the 100 Breast, clocking in at 56.44. He also took part in the 50 Breast, earning silver with a 25.88 mark.
Brown and junior Ameer Bashir (Hartley, Del.) grabbed second (1:57.07) and third (1:57.40), respectively, in the 200 IM.
Senior Daren Rodgers (Chicago), juniors Adam Diaz (Manhattan, N.Y.) and Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) represented Bison Nation in the 200 Free Relay, taking second place with a 1:24.65 time. The Chicago native also competed in 50 Free, landing third overall on the individual board with a 21.78 mark.
Diaz and Bashir claimed silver (24.26) and bronze (24.57), respectively, in the 50 Back. The New York product found success in the 100 Back, recording a 53.23 mark while finishing third.
Green competed individually in the 50 Fly and 100 Free, placing second (22.46) and third (45.74), respectively.
Diaz, Green, Rodgers and rookie Ayrton Moncur (Nassau, Bahamas) opened the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, registering a time of 1:33.75. Moncur also took part in the 100 Fly, securing bronze with a 50.79 mark.
Other noteworthy performances included senior Darien Williams (Philadelphia) grabbing third (1:42.86) in the 200 Free and freshman standout Solomon Goins (Dallas) earning bronze (4:54.48) in the 500 Free.
On Jan. 31, HU faces Catholic on Senior Day. First race is scheduled for 1 p.m.

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Women’s Swimming & Diving split its competition Friday afternoon at Goodall Pool, earning a big win over Saint Francis.
The Keydets were victorious over the Red Flash, 185-105, to earn their first win of the season, but were downed by Howard, 187-109. VMI has posted triple digits against its last three opponents.
The first two events were record-breaking marks. The 200 Medley Relay squad with Noelle Tong, Parker Belle Fogle, Emerson Cosner, and Mackenzie Byrne finished second in 1:48.89, breaking the team record. In the very next race, Avery Shuping shattered the Rat and team records in the 1,000 Free (10:37.39) for first place.
Shuping later finished second in the 500 Free (5:15.39). Fogle individually scored a second-place mark in the 100 Breast (1:07.35) and the 50 Breast (30.91), while Cosner earned second in the 100 Fly (59.33) and Tong tallied second in the 50 Back followed by third in the 100 Free (53.95). Lacy Delzell nabbed second in the 200 Free (1:55.90).
The 200 Free Relay team with Byrne, Tong, Delzell, and Maddie Wolfe picked up a win (1:39.82) to cap off the evening.
On the boards, Isabelle Haer dominated in both dives, scoring 232.50 points in the one-meter followed by 254.40 points in the three-meter.

The Keydets host the final dual meet of the season next Saturday against cross-town rival, Washington & Lee. The program will also honor its seniors before the meet begins at 2 p.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men’s Swimming & Diving picked up where it left off with a dominating 214-86 triumph over Howard at Goodall Pool on Friday.
Despite the Keydets’ last outing being two months ago, VMI never wavered en route to a near sweep by having a first-place finisher in 14 of the 16 events. The Keydets move to 3-3 overall and earn their second win over Howard this season.
The 200 Medley Relay squad, consisting of Sam Castle, Layne Tucker, Ian Lutz, and Matthew Picard, scored the first win of the day, crossing the finish line in 1:30.04. The 200 Free Relay team with Picard, Castle, Lutz, and Joshua Wolf sped their way to first to cap off the day (1:22.81).
Earning multiple first-place marks were Caleb Wolf in the 1,000 Free (9:47.32) and 500 Free (4:43.55), Jack Mills in the 200 Free (1:40.43) and 200 IM (1:53.27), Lutz in the 50 Free (20.58) and 50 Fly (22.06), and Castle in the 50 Back (23.44) and 100 Back (51.26).
Tucker picked up a win in the 50 Breast (25.84), while Max Brunner claimed victory in the 100 Fly (50.37), but not before Picard placed first in the 100 Free (45.20).
On the boards, Lane Jones tallied a tight win in the three-meter dive with 254.78 points. Right behind Jones was freshman teammate Dorian Albee, who smashed the Rat three-meter record with 253.35 points.

The Keydets host the final dual meet of the season next Saturday against cross-town rival, Washington & Lee. The program will also honor its seniors before the meet begins at 2 p.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The Saint Francis women’s swimming team competed in a tri-meet against Howard University and Virginia Military Institute on Friday, January 16, in Lexington, Virginia. The meet served as an important late-season racing opportunity as the Red Flash continued preparations for postseason competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Francis opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the A relay of Reegan Brown, Maura Rubio, Laryssa Webster, and Kathryn Tanis touched in at 1:49.63. The Red Flash continued to produce strong results in individual events, highlighted by Sara Turner, who captured first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a winning time of 2:11.50.
Turner also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, while Maura Rubio added a second-place result in the 100-yard backstroke. In the sprint events, Taylor Weth and Kathryn Tanis both raced in the 100-yard breaststroke, contributing valuable points for the Red Flash.
Saint Francis closed the meet with another top-five performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the A relay finished third overall to cap off the afternoon of competition.
UP NEXT:
The Red Flash will travel to Pittsburgh next weekend to compete at the Western PA Invite, their final opportunity to race before the NEC Championships. The meet will serve as an important tune-up as Saint Francis prepares to face several programs they will also see next season as members of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
