Niagara University, N.Y. – Chaos in the Kiernan Center as Women defeated St. Bonaventure 168 – 94, and the Men defeated the 2025 A-10 Runner Ups Bonnies, 139–123, with the meet coming down to the Last Relay.
The Women set Pool Records in 9 of the 14 events contested, winning 13 of 14 events. The Men added another 2, with Vilem Mikula’s time of 48.74 in the 100 Back setting a new School Record.
The women got off to a hot start in the 200 Medley Relay with Killion, Pitton, Fridman, and Jackson securing the win in Pool Record fashion. The Men’s Relay finished in a close second but would set the tone for the day, fighting top to bottom, ultimately to a victory.
Martina Divis and Avery King teamed up to go first and third in the 1000, with Marty leading the entire way. The 200 Frees saw excited racing. Natalie Killion fought off tough competition from the Bonnies to claim first. For the Men, Freshman Jura Domanovac battled a tough field to touch first, his first individual collegiate victory. The men kept the momentum rolling with Vilem’s School record in the 100 Back. Teammate Holden Brock grabbed second with another Personal best swim for him. Mary Carl’s win in the 200 Fly shattered her own Pool Record, 2:04.36. After the 50 Free’s the Women led 78 – 53 while the Men trailed 60 – 71. But they would fight back.
After dropping the 100 Freestyle they would win the next 3 events, taking the top 3 spots in the 200 back (Mikula, Brock, Stoneburgh) and the 200 Breast (Cruz, Latimer, Lauzonis). Jordan Grab fought hard to win by a touch two tenths in the 500. The women had a dominant showing in the 200 Breast as well, with Pitton, Vlaeminck, and O. Bodyl taking the top 3 positions. For the 200 Back, Killion would claim first, with Norton and Ania Bodyl grabbing third and fourth.
Right before the second intermission, Killion won the 100 Fly by .12, utilizing a great finish to claim victory. With two events to go the Women led comfortably, while the Men held a 4-point lead (115-111).
The last individual event saw Alaina Pitton finish a day of record performances. She won the 200 IM by almost 5 seconds and in Pool Record fashion. That was the theme for Pitton. Each of her 4 races saw her win in Pool Record times. The men’s 200 IM saw Lance Cruz grab a big win and teammate Thomas Latimer come from behind for second, securing key points.
The 400 Free Relay’s did not disappoint with the Women’s squad clocking a new Pool Record by over 5 second, and only 1 second off the School Record. The men’s side saw Niagara needing only a second-place finish to secure the team victory. They did one better and ended the day with a win. The fastest time in the conference so far in the event.
