The top ranked men’s recruit in the high school of 2027, Luka Mijatovic posted a teaser of what could be a hint at his college commitment on his Instagram today. The 2025 World Championship Qualifier posted a black and white picture with him in a cowboy hat, evoking the imagery of Texas.
The picture is not accompanied by caption, Responses from a number of Texas swimmers seem to imply it’s foreshadowing a commitment to the Longhorns.
The post is eerily similar to that of Ian Call’s commitment earlier this month, when he announced his decision to verbally commit to Texas, posing in a cowboy hat and traditional Texas wear. Call commented on the post with the eyeball emojis, somewhat hinting at Mijatovic’s decision. Call even reposted the post on his Instagram stroy with the caption “Sneak Peek”.
Among other commenters on the post was Texas All-American Will Modglin who commented the ‘horns up’ emojis, Texas A&M transfer and Texas senior Baylor Nelson mirrored Modglin’s comment. Texas freshman breaststroker and national champion Campbell McKean, hinted at the outside friendship between him, Mijatovic and Longhorn Freshman Aiden Hammer, posting “The trio is completed @aidenjhammer”.
This past summer, Mijatovic represented the United States at the 2025 World Championships in the 400 freestyle. Mijatovic qualified for the Championships after his lifetime best 3:45.71 in that race to finish 2nd at the 2025 US Summer Nationals in June.
There he finished behind Texas junior Rex Maurer who touched in 3:43.33.
Mijatovic had previously visited Texas, Cal, and Indiana, three of the top programs in the country, and top three teams from last season’s NCAA Championships.
Texas is the defending NCAA Men’s National Champions, taking down the Cal men by 19 points.
The Longhorns have already landed verbal commitments from Call and Ellis Crisci for the highschool class of 2027.

Really don’t think slurs are appropriate here
Now just need to get that boy some proper fitting jeans to go with that cowboy hat!
Wait a minute we’re thinking about this too hard! It’s clearly DIII Trinity University. Gotta make those D3 records untouchable somehow.
No surprise. Texas has NIL money Cal can’t match.
This is the least surprising one.
I’m waiting for Rylee Erisman, Audrey Derivaux and Filip Nowacki announcement. Or maybe someone on SwimSwam has any inside information?
Braden said the rumor is Erisman to Cal
I heard a big Ten school for AD. That was from a guy at Masters practice who is neighbors with a dude who works with a lady whose daughter has the same lunch period as her.
This needs more reactions
Think he would have been super successful at any of the 3 schools that were on his final list, and excited to see what he does with Texas. This guy is the future of USA swimming
