BOTR Ranked Breaststroke and IMer Erin Griffis Commits To Northwestern For Fall 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Erin Griffis from Los Altos, California has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Northwestern beginning in fall 2027. Griffis is a “Best of the Rest” ranked recruit in the girls high school class of 2027.

“I am SO EXCITED to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Northwestern University! I would like to extend gratitude to my family for their endless support throughout my swimming career. And of course, thank you to my exceptional @paloaltostanfordaquatics teammates and coaches for helping me to develop as an athlete and person. Finally, I am so grateful to Coach Rachel, Coach Eddie, and the rest of the NU team for providing me with this incredible opportunity. GO ‘CATS!!”

Griffis swims for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics and finished her long course season at Summer Juniors. There she swam to season best times in the 100 breast (1:13.28 for 59th) and 200 IM (2:21.99 for 47th).

She began her junior year this fall at Mountain View High School. In May, she finished 6th in the 100 breast at the CIF State Championships posting a 1:02.99. She was slightly faster in prelims with a 1:02.56. She also was 12th in the 200 IM with a 2:03.02.

Griffis’ Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 IM: 2:02.31
  • 400 IM: 4:17.96
  • 100 breast: 1:02.56
  • 200 breast: 2:16.54

The Northwestern women finished 9th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships with 409 points, 120 points behind 8th place Purdue. Grad student Nikki Venema led the way with 39 individual points including a 7th place finish in the 100 free (47.97).

Based on her best times, Griffis is not far off what it took to final in numerous events. It took a 4:15.16 in the 400 IM, a 1:59.66 in the 200 IM, and a 2:13.65 in the 200 breast to earn a second swim. Northwestern had no finalists in the 400 IM and Grey Davis was 23rd in the 200 IM in a 1:58.65 to score two points in the event.

Griffis is the 3rd BOTR ranked recruit set to arrive in fall 2027 as backstroker Lucy Velte and IMer Annabeth Town have already announced their commitments.
