World Champion Alex Walsh asserted her dominance once again in the women’s 200 IM, winning her signature event at all three stops of the 2025 World Cup. Although Walsh wasn’t completely satisfied with all of her swims during the circuit, she did say she was proud of herself for showing up when it mattered regarding the 200 IM.

Bring her on for a full interview please!!!!
I totally get how she would be not excited to do the 400IM, but as a fan, still would love to see her do it.
My honest question is: should Alex consider leaving UVA? I know it’s been a home for her with so many friends, but I’m not really sure her training has been working
I think it’s hard to say it hasn’t been working. She got second at Worlds this past summer in the 2IM after dealing with a shoulder injury in the fall, and she would’ve placed third in the Olympics with a slightly better back to breast turn.
I just hope she isn’t “forcing” the 200 breastroke because there’s an open slot internationally after Douglass. It would be a shame if that training was at the expense of the 2IM (although I sort of doubt it). I’d love it if she put more emphasis on the 200 freestyle.
agree 200 freestyle
Alex last 25 of her 200IM win in Toronto was the slowest in the field
and some 100s fly and back!
she does not have a weak stroke so swim them all in meets, not just 200IM, 200breast.
Her family just bought a house in cville… unlikely she will make a change. Also seems like she follows KD …
we just need to treat Gretchen and Alex like this is their freshman year of college because this whole thing is new for them. Kate and Reagan have been pros for a while now in comparison and clearly have a better grip on these types of meets. I expect huge things from both Walsh’s this next three years.
It’s time to get back to the 400 IM for the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup and the 2026 Short Course World Championships.
Short Course World Championships
Women’s Event Schedule
Day 1: 200 IM heats/final
Day 4: 200 BR heats/final
Day 5: 400 IM heats/final
As a footnote, Emma Weyant has not shown any interest in swimming short course meters internationally since 2021.
Please do a longer interview with Alex and ask her more about her training this season and her event choices
I agree. Too vague
