#1 Ranked Luka Mijatovic Done With NCAA Recruiting Visits, Just Has One Hard Decision To Make

The top ranked recruit in the boys high school class of 2027 Luka Mijatovic has finished his official visits and just has to make his decision on where he will swim in college.

Mijatovic took visits to Cal, Indiana, and Texas. There used to be a limit of five official visits but that was removed in 2023. Still, some swimming recruits do go on five (or more) official visits.

Mijatovic told Social Kick in a recent podcast that he is now in the decision making process. He said that even taking just three visits was “very draining.”

When asked if he ever considered going pro, Mijatovic replied “I don’t think so. I kind of know that I want to go to college and experience swimming in college.” He also spoke on some of the most important aspects of the decision making process saying, “I think just having the connection with the coaches and the team is the most important part for me.”

Mijatovic leads the boys high school class of 2027 in five events, the 200 free (1:33.52), 500 free (4:10.96), 1000 free (8:42.45), 1650 free (14:37.63), and 400 IM (3:41.76). He already would have scored in the 500 free and 1650 free at the 2025 NCAA Championships and he still has two years to develop in high school.

This past summer, Mijatovic represented the US at the 2025 World Championships in the 400 free. He earned his spot after posting a lifetime best 3:45.71 in the event for 2nd at 2025 US Summer Nationals at the start of June. There he finished behind Rex Maurer who touched in a 3:43.33. Maurer entered his junior season this fall at Texas.

Mijatovic is from Pleasanton, California, which is roughly a 30 mile drive from from Cal’s campus in Berkeley. He traveled by plane to Texas and Indiana, which he specifically mentioned in the podcast making official visits draining.

Two years to go in high school, lots of things can change in two years …plus NIL money can change many things depending on what college sports look like in 2027

exactly, by the time Luca is a college freshman, programs can change, coaches can change, class of ’26
and ’27 will graduate, pro group swimmers come and go!
I don’t really know how it works? once a swimmer gives a verbal commitment do they still have a year to
flip? when is “signing day”

As far as I understand it, when they did away with the national letter of intent, there is no longer an official signing day. I’m assuming that this gives even more flexibility for recruits to change their minds.

Don’t sleep on the fact that has made huge strides outside of freestyle in the IM/Fly and even breast. Texas would make him the best all around swimmer in the world.
