Gretchen Walsh added more all-time swims to her resume this past weekend, now holding the top 11 performances all-time in the women’s 50 butterfly. Two of those swims come from the first 50 of her 100 butterfly.
Walsh swam the #3 performance all-time in the 50 butterfly with a 23.91 to win the event at the final stop of the World Cup in Toronto. That swim earned her the $10,000 triple crown bonus as she won the event in Carmel in a World Record 23.72 (another $10,000 bonus) as well as in Westmont in a 23.90, which stands as the #2 performance all-time.
ALL-TIME PERFORMANCES, WOMEN’S SCM 50 FLY
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 23.72 (2025 World Cup, Carmel Finals)
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 23.90 (2025 World Cup, Westmont Finals)

- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 24.13 (2025 World Cup, Carmel Prelims)
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 24.18 (2024 SCM Worlds, 1st 50 of 100 fly final)
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 24.19 (2025 World Cup, Toronto Prelims)
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 24.26 (2025 World Cup, Westmont Prelims)
- Gretchen Walsh, USA – 24.37 (2024 SCM Worlds, 1st 50 of 100 fly semis)
- Therese Alshammar, SWE – 24.38 (2009 World Cup)
Two of the performances that stand out are the first 50 splits of her 100 butterfly during the 2024 SCM World Championships. In semis, she was out in a 24.37 and in finals she was out in a 24.18. She went on to swim World Records in both swims, first posting a 52.87 in semifinals before breaking that with a 52.71 in finals.
Out of her nine performances of the 50 butterfly alone (not the 100 fly), Walsh has never been slower than the previous World Record of a 24.38 set by Sweden’s Therese Alshammar back in 2009.

World Aquatics should call the 50 SCM fly the “Gretchen Walsh event”.
Insane
This is tuff as hell
Never registering a time slower than the world record you broke has gotta be some kind of unicorn stat
To think, Kate Douglass was so close in the W 50 FL (24.42) at the Singapore stop last year.
I had to re read that a few times.
