BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s women’s swimming & diving team got the win on Saturday afternoon against Rider. The Mountain Hawks dominated Broncs on the way to a 237-58 victory. For the second day in a row, the Mountain Hawks swept all 16 events.
There were six different events where the Mountain Hawks took each of the top three spots. The first of the day was the 200-yard freestyle, which was won by Mairin Ludwig. The senior swam 1:53.93, and was trailed by junior Eliza Meth (1:57.99) in second and sophomore Claire Coughlin (1:58.27) in third. Ludwig also won the 200-yard individual medley ahead of two other Mountain Hawks. She dominated the event, swimming 2:08.65, while sophomores Clara Moschella (2:14.05) and Giulia Beverini (2:18.07) followed behind. Senior Caitlin Deitch also won two of the podium sweeping races. She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.50), followed by sophomore Annie Gao (59.48) and senior Juliana Guida (1:01.75). Deitch also championed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.62. Sophomore Zoe Davies (1:08.28) took second and first-year Emma Gyorkos (1:08.35) finished third.
Davies and Gyorkos also found their way onto other Lehigh-filled podiums. The 200-yard breaststroke was won by junior Eliza Meth in 2:28.37. Senior Caitlin Hofmann placed second, swimming 2:30.34, and Davies placed third with a time of 2:33.16. Claire Coughlin won the 500-yard freestyle, with junior Darrah Shuff (5:16.84) finishing second, and Gyorkos swam 5:28.55 to come third.
First-year Bonita Zuo won her first two races of her college career in this meet. She paced the field in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a winning time of 2:14.12. She followed that up by winning the 200-yard backstroke, swimming 2:07.38. She finished right ahead of first-year Sophie Perry, who swam 2:08.67 to place second. Perry still got her flowers in the 1000-yard freestyle, where she swam 10:57.61 to win that event.
First-years Genevieve Cody and Eliza Johnson continued their stellar start to their season, each winning a race. Cody won the 50-yard freestyle, hitting the wall at 23.72. Johnson got her win in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming 57.12. Johnson also picked up second place in the 100-yard freestyle. She swam 52.92, beaten only by Ludwig, who got her third win of the day.
Senior Katie Whitaker continued her hot steak in the diving events, winning over both heights for the third straight meet. She scored 242.40 to win the three-meter dive, and scored 227.70 in the one-meter.
The Mountain Hawks also continued their hot streak in the relay events. Lehigh has won every relay race to start the season. The team of Johnson, Davies, Deitch, and Cody first won the 200-yard medley relay, swimming 1:44.94. Lehigh also took gold swimming the 400-yard freestyle relay. Composed of Deitch, Cody, Ludwig, and Giselle Michaels, the squad swam 3:39.95.
The Mountain Hawks are back home next weekend to face Colgate on Friday, October 24.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s men’s swimming & diving team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 190-104 win against Rider on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks won 11 of the 16 events of the day.
The only Mountain Hawk to take home multiple first place finishes was first-year Andrew Takach. He earned his first two wins of his college career in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.79) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.01). The individual medley was also one of four events where Lehigh swept the podium. Sophomore Jack Deppe (2nd) and first-year TJ Hayes (3rd) finished behind Takach, swimming 1:59.97 and 2:00.68, respectively. Deppe won one of the other podium sweeping events, as his time of 46.45 earned him a win in the 100-yard freestyle. He was followed by sophomores Chase Bearley (47.23) and Davis Woerner (47.63) in second and third. Hayes also won an event Lehigh swept, as he finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:46.25, which led the field. He was trailed by sophomore Will Pestrichelli (2nd, 9:57.59) and senior Alfredo Figueroa Sedano (3rd, 10:01.82). The remaining race that Lehigh finished top three was the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Will Moon won the event in 1:43.49, followed by junior Owen Higinbotham (1:44.22) in second, and Deppe (1:45.19) placed third.
The duo of senior Ben Kisker and sophomore Tristan Ronayne were in full control of the backstroke events, finishing top two in both. Kisker won the 100-yard backstroke (51.11), while Ronayne came second (51.53). Ronayne got his chance at glory over 200 yards, as his time of 1:53.20 edged out Kisker (1:54.22) to win.
First-year Braeden Roach got his first collegiate win in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:43.70. He beat out Higinbotham, who swam 4:44.87 to place second. Roach also placed second in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming 1:57.19. He was beat out by fellow first-year Mountain Hawk Spencer Campbell, who gapped the field to finish at 1:53.80.
Bearley is the remaining individual winner for Lehigh, as he won the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.31. Bearley was also a member of the relay team that championed the 400-yard freestyle relay. The squad of him, Roach, Woerner, and Deppe, closed the meet with a winning time of 3:06.14.
The Mountain Hawks are back home next weekend to face Colgate on Friday, October 24.

BETHLEHEM, PA– The Rider University men’s swimming was topped Saturday afternoon, 190-104, at Lehigh. The Broncs fall to 1-1, while the Mountain Hawks improve to 3-1.
Rider won five events in the meet.
To open the meet, Riley Rowan (Simpsonville, SC/Clonlara), Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional), Tivon Benjamin (Palm Bay, FL/St. Anthony’s Secondary School), and Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) got the Broncs the win in the 200-medley relay, swimming a combined 1:33.30.
In the 100-breast, Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) finished one-two in the 100-breast with times of 57.51 and 59.11, respectively.
The diving well was a strength for the Broncs with Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and Steven Figueroa (Whittier, CA/La Serna) finishing one-two with scores of 272.85 and 244.95 on the 1-meter. The duo swapped places on the 3-meter with Figueroa scoring 255.30 and Xantheas scoring 255.23.
Benjamin swam 50.65 to win the 100-fly.
