After losing the 100 last night, Caspar Corbeau came back with a vengeance, winning the men’s 50 breast in a new Dutch and US Open record of 25.52.

Corbeau was out in 2nd place at the 25 mark. He turned in 11.55 which was just two-hundredths behind Finn Brooks‘ 11.53 for the lead. He quickly made up that ground, though, swimming 13.97 on the 2nd 25 to be the only athlete in the field under 14 seconds and win the event.
He hacked a little more than two tenths off his Dutch record time of 25.78 from last week, where he split 11.78/14.00 to win the silver medal.
Corbeau broke the US Open record that was held by American Nic Fink from 2019 and South Africa’s Chris Smith from last week at 25.75.
He will move up to be the 7th fastest European in history after moving up to 10th last week, surpassing Ludovico Viberti, Simone Cerasuolo, and Fabio Scozzoli.

I think his Dad was two spots down on the rail from me. He was very happy and a little emotional before and after. At one point I saw him take a little walk and I felt like he was just soaking this in, maybe a little moisture in his eyes.
As a fellow Dad it brought me some joy to watch his uncontrollable pride.
