Day one of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup stop in Carmel, Indiana, saw multiple national records and even some U.S. Open records go down.
Falling into the latter category was American Shaine Casas‘ powerful performance in the men’s 100m IM, where the versatile 25-year-old scorched a winning time of 50.86 to grab the gold.
After already having raced the men’s 200m back earlier in the session, where he nabbed the bronze (1:49.81), Casas managed to hold off Swiss ace Noe Ponti, Canadian Finlay Knox and Hungarian Hubert Kos.
Ponti settled for silver in 51.13 while Knox and Kos tied for third place simultaneously touching in 51.29. Of note, Ponti had already raced and won the men’s 100m fly earlier while Kos topped the aforementioned 200m back contest.
As for Casas, the Bob Bowman-trained star’s 100m IM outing erased his own former U.S. Open record of 51.04, dipping under the 51-second barrier for the first time in his career. That former result was produced during the 2022 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series.
Split Comparison
| Casas’ New U.S. Open Record – 50.86 | Casas’ Old U.S. Open Record – 51.04 |

This evening, Casas ripped an opening 25m of 10.30 to take charge of the field before Kos gained some ground in the backstroke, hitting 12.35 to Casas’ 12.69. But Casas regained the top spot through the breaststroke and punched the fastest final 25m (12.57) of the pack to get to the wall first.
According to the World Aquatics database, Casas is now the 9th-best performer ever in this event.
