WILMINGTON, N.C. – Defending Coastal Athletic Association men’s swimming and diving champion UNCW opens its season on Friday with the Georgia Bulldogs at David B. Allen Natatorium.
The meet begins at 5 p.m. and while the men will be in official competition, the Seahawk women will be running an intrasquad during the meet. Admission is free and the meet will be streamed on FloCollege.
The Seahawk men return 13 letterwinners from last year’s championship roster and welcome 13 newcomers to the program.
William Carrico leads the Seahawks on the swimming side, having captured three CAA event titles last spring. Carrico earned gold in the 400 IM, 500 Free and 200 Breaststroke.
On the board, Ethan Badrian continued his rampage through the CAA, sweeping the championship boards for the second time in three seasons.
Carrico and Badrian were honored as the CAA Championship swimmer and diver of the meet, respectively. Badrian was also recognized as the league’s Diver of the Year for a third consecutive season.
UNCW returns to the pool with the second of three straight home meets to open the season on Oct. 10-11 against Gardner-Webb. That weekend will also be Alumni Weekend, with the Seahawk program holding several events throughout the weekend.

Pokes a hole in last year’s theory that SEC teams wouldn’t have a meet till November to allow them to pick through the team due to roster limits.
Happy swimming and diving!
Designated student-athletes kind of got rid of that need.
UNCW is a good team. Will be fun to see how this one goes!
Sept 12 – and it’s already time to race in a legit meet! Gunturo consistently ensures UNCW is punching above its weight class and swimming elite competition. Good stuff
