USA Swimming has named 121 athletes to the 2025-26 National Team, the organization announced Monday. That number is 15 more members than last year’s roster. The selection was based on results from the 2024-25 season, which comprised times from September 1st, 2024, through August 31st, 2025.

Headlining the roster is Katie Ledecky, who makes her staggering 14th National Team appearance, the most among any active national team member. Caeleb Dressel and Michael Andrew each earn their 10th National Team selections, the most of active members on the men’s side.

“We’re excited for this year’s roster,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Greg Meehan said in a press release from USA Swimming. “We witnessed some strong performances across national and international events this past summer, reinforcing that our team is set up well for the Pan Pacific Championships and future competitions as we look towards LA28.”

Shaine Casas (six events) and Regan Smith (seven events) lead each side of the American roster in qualified events. For Smith, this is the second consecutive year that she has qualified for the most events among all women, having shared that top spot with Kate Douglass and Katie Grimes in 2024 with five events.

The 2025-26 National Team features 50 first-time selections. Headlining the list of newcomers is Patrick Sammon, who won a mixed free relay gold at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships this summer in Singapore, and World University Games breakout star Leah Shackley.

The roster is made up of 121 athletes (54 women, 67 men) from 33 states and 25 universities, with the state of California boasting the largest number of represented athletes (14). The University of Virginia is the most represented university with 14 athletes.

USA Swimming National Team athletes gain access to elite-focused support including direct financial stipends (based on event ranking and world-class “A” time standards), elite athlete health insurance, dedicated travel and recovery funding (covering training, travel, therapy, nutrition, etc.), confidential assistance via an Athlete Ombuds for disputes or mental health support, and career/education resources through the USOPC’s ACE Program, all designed to help athletes focus on training and competing at the highest level.

Texas has 6 male current roster National team members. Should be an easy trip to 1st place at NCAA’s this year.

Casas interview with Mel is out on podcast but looks like no article yet.

He says “one gold is worth a million silvers” lol. Can’t wait to see the discourse that comes out of that one.

Do you have to be a professional swimmer to be on the national team? Most recently, didn’t Nic Fink have a full-time job and was part of the national team?

God It is going to be a blood bath come 2028 trials in the women’s 200 Free. Just look at how fast this event has gotten.
Ledecky 1:53,Weinstein 1:54, Gemmell, Peplowski, Huske, Sims all 1:55’s, Shackell, Manuel, Mintenko 1:56’s, Grimes, Erisman, Gormsen, A. Walsh, Ivey, R. Smith, Dobson, Hayes, Sauickie all 1:57’s, and then a BUNCH of junior athletes in the 1:58/1:59 territory. Throw in Anna Moesch’s 1:57 split from prelims at 2025 worlds 8FR relay and let’s say Paige Madden comes back from her break and is 1:55 again, we could very well see a semifinal where it takes sub 1:58 to make it in.

I got lots of downvotes last year when I said too many people think 1:56-1:57 is fast. Now I’ll say too many people think 1:55-1:56 is fast. Will be interesting to see which coaches adjust their thinking and learning to international fast. Most seem stuck in national fast.

Berkoff was third at worlds in the 100 back. I think she’s made Pan Pacs in that too.
