16 year old Ian Call swam to a lifetime best 1:00.61 to post the top time of prelims in Irvine. That moves him up to the #2 all-time in the 15-16 age group, sitting just behind Josh Matheny‘s National Age Group (NAG) record of a 1:00.17 that Matheny swam back at the 2019 World Junior Championships.

The now 22 year old Matheny notably just swam the 100 breaststroke while representing the US at the 2025 World Championships.

Call was slower than Matheny on both 50s this morning but has another chance to improve tonight. Call moved up to sit at #2 after previously sitting at #4 all-time as his previous best was a 1:01.09 that he swam last month at US Summer Nationals for a 17th place finish.
