Zionsville Swim Club Notches New 13-14 NAG in 200 Free Relay in Indianapolis

On day three of the ISI Age Group Long Course Championships in Indianapolis, Zionsville Swim Club broke the 13–14 National Age Group Record in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking 1:38.91 to surpass the Washington Township Swim Club’s mark of 1:39.56.

The team made up of Cooper McQuiston (24.22), Khari Slater (24.56), Jonathan Baker (26.26), and Everett Heiser (23.87) took down the previous age group best by 0.65 seconds. McQuinston’s leadoff time was .05 faster than his individual 50 on the week, marking a new personal best in the event. With his leadoff leg. Slater’s split was over a whole second faster than his best 50 free time of 25.70, a time he set in the individual 50 at this meet. Baker threw down a big-time drop in the relay as well, swimming .96 seconds faster than his best of 27.22. Anchoring the relay was Heiser, whose 23.87 split tops his best 50 free time of 24.22.

Washington Township’s 2014 foursome included U.S. Olympian Drew Kibler as the anchor leg. The rest of the relay consisted of Andrew Couchon (competed for Indiana University and the University of Texas), Parker Heshberger (swam at Dartmouth), and Jackson Miller, a relay that held the record for over a decade.

McQuinston has earned 1st-place finishes in the 200 free (1:57.58) and 100 butterfly (58.02), and anchored the 400 medley relay to a podium-topping finish with a split of 52.91.

Slater has picked up wins in the 50 fly (25.76) and 100 fly (57.69), splitting 58.16 in the fly leg of the 400 medley relay.

For Heiser, up to this point, he has also added three individual wins and one additional relay gold for these championships in the 13-14 age group. Heiser took gold in the 50 back (27.39), 50 free (24.22), and 100 back (59.93). He also led off the winning 400 medley relay with his 1:01.33 backstroke split.

Zionsville Swim Club finished nearly five seconds ahead of runners-up, Carmel Swim Club, who touched at 1:43.67.
