Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Silje Slyngstadli from Bergen, Norway, has announced her intention to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley, beginning this fall.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley! I want to thank my friends, family and @bergensvoemmerne for the support throughout this journey🫶🏻 And a big thank you to the coaches at CAL for giving me this incredible opportunity! Looking forward to this next chapter, Go Bears!💛🐻💙”
Slyngstadli, who is 21, is Norway’s current national record-holder in the SCM 50 breast (29.85), LCM 50 breast (30.55), and LCM 100 breast (1:07.53). She also holds national junior records in the SCM 50 breast (30.34), SCM 100 breast (1:06.88), and LCM 50 breast (31.83). She has won a total of 14 individual and 2 relay gold medals at Norwegian senior national championships. Earlier this month, she won the 50 breast (30.59), 100 breast (1:07.91), and 200 breast (2:28.36) at the 2025 Norwegian Long Course Championships and received award for the “Best Female Performance” of the meet.
A week earlier, she had represented Norway at the European Aquatics U23 Championships in Šamorín. She earned a silver medal in the 50 breast, breaking the national record with 30.55, and placed 7th in the final of the 100 breast (1:08.94). In 2023 at the U23 European Championships in Dublin, she won a bronze medal in the 50 breast, and she took home the gold in the 50 breast at the 2021 Nordic Senior Championships in Väsby.
She is entered in the 50 breast and 100 breast at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025.
Best times:
| SCM | LCM | Converted to SCY | |
| 50 breast | 29.85 | 30.55 | 26.62 |
| 100 breast | 1:05.82 | 1:07.53 | 59.03 |
| 200 breast | 2:31.00 | 2:28.36 | 2:10.05 |
Slyngstadli is an important pick-up for the Golden Bears, who lost two of their top 3 breaststrokers (Lea Polonsky and Margaux McDonald) to graduation. Polonsky swam the breaststroke legs (26.01 and 59.12) on Cal’s medley relays at NCAAs, while McDonald posted the team’s fastest flat-start 100 breast (59.50) of the season. Slyngstadli will overlap with rising senior Abby Herscu, whose 2:07.60 in prelims made the ‘A’ final of the 200 breast. Airi Mitsui, Alexa McDevitt, Annie Jia, Claire Weinstein, Ella Cosgrove, Elle Scott, Gracyn Aquino, and Teagan O’Dell will also be newcomers on campus in the fall.
