Rising NC State senior Drew Salls is swimming at the North Carolina Senior Championships this weekend, and he started off his meet with a blistering 21.93 50 freestyle for the win.

Salls, who is entered in the meet as Larry, is only swimming the 50 and 100 freestyle events this weekend, but he made the most of his first swim with a win and a new personal best time in the 50 free, touching in 21.93 to win the event by three tenths of a second over Sean Setzer from the North Carolina Aquatic Club.

This time was just over two tenths faster than his previous best time of 22.15 that he swam at last summer’s Olympic Trials where he finished 12th in the semifinals. At the 2024 Trials, he finished 11th in 22.26.

His time tonight would have been 6th this year, and is currently the 6th fastest 50 freestyle time in the country behind Chris Giuliano (21.86), teammate Quintin McCarty (21.79), Jonny Kulow (21.73), and the two Worlds qualifiers Santo Condorelli (21.68) and Jack Alexy (21.36).

Salls will be a senior at NC State this year, and this swim bodes well for how his senior season will look. At the 2025 NCAA Championships, he finished 16th in the 50 freestyle after swimming 18.90 in the prelims.
