Longhorn Aquatics’ Lillie Nesty turned in a double victory on Saturday night, winning the 200 back and 100 fly just hours apart to bring her total win tally to three so far.
Nesty turned in a time of 2:14.02 in the 200 back, just under two seconds off of her lifetime best set at U.S. Nationals in June. She raced into the wall over two seconds ahead of runner-up Chloe Stepanek (2:16.18) to claim a definitive victory in the event.
Nesty closed out her night in style by posting the 11th-fastest time this season in the girls’ 17-18 100 fly; she won the event in a personal best time of 1:00.21 and knocked 1.11 off of her previous time. Her performance in the 100 fly landed her her third victory of the meet, having won the 100 free (55.37) on day 1.
Campbell Chase, another Longhorn Aquatics teammate, also picked up her third win of the meet. Chase prevailed in the 100 breast, throwing down a lifetime best 1:10.88 and shaving .74 off her time to narrowly beat out runner-up teammate Grace Rabb (1:11.05). Chase’s performance completed a sweep of the breaststroke events, as she won the 200 on day 1 in 2:33.05.
The boys’ 200 back saw a handful of top performances from the age group swimmers. 16-year-old Ben Liang of Longhorn Aquatics enjoyed a massive lifetime best, throwing down a time of 2:05.82 to knock 1.68 off of his previous time (2:07.50) and blast right through the 2:06 range entirely. Liang placed 4th overall, just ahead of 15-year-old Derek Hernandez-Ojeda of Nitro Swimming, who posted a personal best time of 2:06.21 and dropped 2.5 seconds. Liang and Hernandez-Ojeda now rank 19th and 20th on the ranking of top times this season in the boys’ 15-16 age group.
Longhorn Aquatics’ Ryan Branon completed a sweep of the butterfly events. After winning the 200 fly in spectacular fashion on day 1, he won the 100 fly in 52.76 to secure the championship title by almost a full second. Branon was the only one in the field to go sub-53; the runner-up behind him was Jacob Wimberly, who posted a time of 53.73.
