Churchill also won the 200 IM in 1:52.12, shaving 01.0 from his prelims time which itself was a new lifetime best by nearly two seconds, improving upon the mark he set at the 2024 edition of the KSHSAA 6A State Championships.

Prior to Friday’s prelims, Rife had only broken 47 once in the 100 freestyle with a 46.97 recorded in December 2024. His 200 freestyle prelims performance of 1:40.02 was also a best time by o.62.
Blue Valley West senior Jack Punswick was honored with the Spirit of Sport award for his determination to continue with competitive swimming while fighting stage II Hodgkins lymphoma. Punswick earned two silver medals on Saturday, one in the 200 medley relay where he contributed a 27.23 breaststroke split for Overland Park-Blue Valley West, and another in the 100 breaststroke where he posted a 59.63.
Speaking to KCTV 5, Punswick said of the award “It is amazing, I mean one kid in the entire state of Kansas and I wouldn’t be here without the support that I’ve had from my parents, my amazing girlfriend, the team at Blue Valley West, my coaches who have been here every single day. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t them.” Punswick told KCTV 5 that he still plans to swim in college and that he will take a gap year to regain his health.
