Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday morning, battling George Mason and Cleveland State inside Towers Pool. The Dukes dominated the Patriots, 210.5-70.5 before taking down the Vikings, 206.5-74.5.
DIVING RESULTS
The diving team kicked things off on Friday night, battling George Mason, Cleveland State, and Lafayette at Carnegie Mellon in the one-meter and three-meter dive. Highlighting the day was the three-meter dive, where the Dukes swept all three top spots.
Junior Ashley Felitsky paced the group, taking home the gold with a final score of 273.00. Junior Kendall Nigh finished in second place with a total score of 252.55 while freshman Brianne Dempsey took home the bronze by tallying a score of 249.70. Senior Julia Doolittle also competed, finishing in seventh place with a final total of 228.50.
Duquesne continued its momentum in the one-meter dives, posting four Dukes in the top 10. Felitsky would capture her second first-place finish of the night, registering a final score of 282.10. Nigh would take home fifth by carding a score of 226.30, posting personal bests in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Dempsey finished with a tally of 221.25 to be tabbed seventh while Doolittle tied for 10th with a total of 203.30.
SWIMMING RESULTS
Behind 10 first place finishes and three new pool records, the Duquesne swimming team dominated on Saturday morning. The 200-yard medley got things started as the team of senior Haley Scholer, junior Sydney Severini, freshman Ashley Freel, and classmate Kaitlyn Connors took home first place with a time of 1:43.23.
Freel continued her dominance, securing three more gold medals. She captured the top spot in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.49 before securing first-place in the 200 (2:02.37) and 100-yard butterfly (55:56). Egan captured herself a pair of new pool records on Saturday. She captured her first gold and broke the school record in the 200-yard freestyle by touching the wall at 1:50.68. In the 500-yard freestyle, Egan captured her second pool record and first place finish after clocking in a time of 4:56.30.
Scholer enjoyed her senior day, taking home four medals and a new pool record. She captured the top spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.62 before breaking her own pool record in the 200 backstroke by touching the wall at 1:58.54. The senior ended her day with a bronze finish in the 100-yard butterfly (56.37). In the same event, the Dukes swept the first four positions. Freel took the top spot, followed by freshman Rachel Howard (55.98), Scholer, and junior Claudia Rzeznik (56.43) in fourth.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Severini clocked in a time of 1:04.32 to take the gold while freshman Jess Burns followed in second with a final time of 1:04.81. Severini also took the top spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.94) while Burns followed right behind with a time of 2:20.46.
Duquesne would sweep the top three spots in the 200 backstroke, led by Scholer while freshman Sierra Snow took silver by touching the wall at 1:52.77. Classmate Caitlin Horning was tabbed with the bronze by registering a time of 2:03.92. Snow would collect a silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle while clocking in a time of 1:52.77.
Senior Kendra Joachim captured a bronze medal in the 200 butterfly (2:04.73) before taking home a second place finish in the 500-yard free (4:59.76). Connors tallied a pair of second place finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.92) and the 100 freestyle (51.79) while sophomore Lexi Sundgren captured a pair of bronze medals in the 100 free (51.82) and the 500 free (5:01.83)

“The ladies put up another good performance today,” head coach David Sheets said. “We continue to bring a lot of enthusiasm and energy to our racing and our support of each other. Watching the ladies on the pool deck and behind the blocks, Matt and I can tell they are having fun and enjoying the process. When each individual can do that, it makes the whole team better. The ladies will enjoy a day off tomorrow and we will continue to work at getting better on Monday.”

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – George Mason junior Tate Anderson won three individual events to lead the Patriots’ men’s team past Cleveland State, while the women’s team fell to Duquesne and Cleveland State on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Patriots men’s team took the top spot in nine events and defeated the Vikings, 148-113. The women’s team fell to the Dukes, 210.5-70.2 and the Vikings, 157-124.
On the men’s side, Anderson won the 50-yard freestyle (20.49), 100-yard freestyle (44.68) and 200-yard freestyle (1:36.73).
Junior Aoun Al-Hiari won both the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.48) and 100-yard butterfly (49.11). Sophomore Ian Rodgers took the top spot in both the 100-yard backstroke (49.17) and 200-yard backstroke (1:47.65).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, senior Tyler Lentine touched the wall first (2:03.10). Sophomore Alex Crown placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.03) and was second in the 400-yard IM (4:03.51).
Sophomore Cody Scifres was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.33) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.28).
The Patriots won both relay events. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the group of graduate student Kyle Johnson, senior Zane Roberts, Anderson and Rodgers took the top spot (1:21.77). The team of Rodgers, Lentine, Al-Hiari and Roberts won the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.39).
On the women’s side, senior Ali Tyler won the 100-yard freestyle (51.67). In the 200-yard butterfly, graduate student Abigail Murtaugh placed second (2:04.46).
Senior Emma DeJong took third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.94) and placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (52.63).
In the 200-yard freestyle, senior Sydney Atkins finished third (1:54.89) and sophomore Kristen Ivey was fourth (1:55.11). Ivey also placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.14).
Senior Peyton Brehmer finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.14). In the 400-yard IM, sophomore Casey Tingen was fourth (4:34.87) and junior Gracie Sweeney fifth (4:45.58).
In the 200-yard medley relay, senior Shannon Judge, Tyler, DeJong and Brehmer combined to place third (1:45.12). The team of sophomore Hannah Magdeburg, Tyler, Brehmer and Judge finished second (1:35.75).
The Patriots conclude the home portion of their schedule when the host Towson on Saturday, Jan. 25 with the meet scheduled to begin at noon at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Vikings completed its busy weekend with a split on Saturday as the Green and White defeated George Mason while falling to the hosts, Duquesne.
The 200-yard medley relay of Eva Smith, Ella Ciez, Audrey Butcher, and Grace Chelf finished as the runner-up with a time of 1:44.78.
Chelf sprinted to a time of 23.23, winning the 50-yard freestyle.
Giovanna Cappabianca finished as the runner-up in the 400-yard IM after clocking a 4:31.02.
The Vikings went second and third in the 100-yard backstroke with Butcher (56.61) and Smith (57.53).
In 1M diving, Ellie Seiter placed second with 258.00 points and Brooke Eichel was a spot back with 239.90 points.
The Vikings capped off the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle as Butcher, Haley Palmer, Kaelah Baccus, and Chelf clocked a 1:35.04.
Cleveland State will conclude the regular season on Friday, January 24 at Oakland with a start time of 4 p.m.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Cleveland State completed its busy weekend with a loss to George Mason in a neutral site dual at Duquesne.
Jackson Nester took home the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:00.47.
The 100-yard breaststroke went to Tyler Schultze with a time of 56.82.
James Wolf captured the win in 3M diving with a score of 318.80.
Cleveland State will conclude the regular season on Friday, January 24 at Oakland with a start time of 4 p.m.
