2024 Olympic gold medalist Leon Marchand highlights the French swimming roster for the 2024 Short Course World Championships. France will have a total of 13 athletes with five women and eight men.
Marchand is coming off of a historic Olympic Games after winning four individual events, the 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM, doing so in front of the home crowd in Paris. Marchand has not returned to the US for training with Bob Bowman, instead training in his home city of Toulouse, France. He is being coached by Nicolas Castel and is expected to return to Bowman after the meet in Hungary.
Also highlighting the men’s roster are Yohann Ndoye-Brouard and Maxime Grousset who swam on the men’s 4×100 medley relay in Paris alongside Marchand. That relay won bronze. Clement Secchi was also named to the roster and swam in the prelims relay for the French men, also earning him bronze.
The women’s roster is highlighted by Anastasiia Kirpichnikova who was the lone woman to win a medal for France at the Olympics. Kirpichnikova won silver in the 1500 freestyle, swimming a national record in the process.
The 2024 Short Course World Championships are scheduled from December 10-15 in Budapest, Hungary at the Duna Arena. Budapest was notably home to Marchand’s first World Title as he won the 200 and 400 IMs at the LC World Championships in 2022.
He’s gonna lay waste to several World Records
Do we know his events?
Not for the moment. But 100, 200 and 400 IM are almost certain. I bet on the 200 breast too even though it seems to me that the 100 IM final is very close (the battle with Ponti will be tough). I think he’ll swim the 200 free the last day. I’d have liked him to swim the 200 butterfly but I don’t think he will compete in it unfortunately. He didn’t swim the event at the World Cup in Asia. Finally I think he’ll compete in at least one relay, probably the 4x100m medley relay and maybe the 4x50m medley relay but that’s just a guess.
Record books are in shambles
IM’s are looking very shaky. 200 breast is a possibility and the 200 fly definitely seems the hardest to do out of the 4. A 1:46 is just a stupid time.
And 200m free for him?
I guess he’ll swim the event, the last day of Worlds. Even it’s new for him I think he can get on the podium.
Don’t know if it’ll swim 200 fly, perhaos 200 free instead.
200 IM World record for sure. I hope the 400 IM WR but Seto’s record is high.(3:54.81) I imagine he’ll break Russian Borodin’s european record (3:56.47) No way for the 100 IM. Dressel’s WR is otherworldly, but another european record for sure. For the 200 breast, I don’t know. He swam 2:02.99 in Asia. Maybe a 2:01 low. But Prigoda’s WR will be hard to achieve. Finally I don’t think he’ll swim the 200 fly.(unfortunately)
I don’t agree on 200 breast.
For me, one of the easiest to break if he is in good shape.
He was very exhausted when he swam at 2.02.99 (he took the 4th place).
He said it himself.
400 Im, very likely if he’s in good shape too.
