MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving program bested the visiting UIC Flames 157-143 today at the Klotsche Natatorium. The win puts the Panthers at 1-1 on the season and extends their home winning streak over the Flames to nine meets. Milwaukee hasn’t lost a home meet against UIC since 2001.

The Panthers started hot out of the gate, winning the 200 yard medley relay to open the events. Shortly after, Antoni Haupt touched the wall third in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:53.60.

“It was a fun night tonight for both programs, and pulling out two wins over a very fast and well coached program like UIC will be a highlight to our season,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “What makes it even better is that it was a team win. We obviously had our event winners, but in a close meet like this it comes down to those touching out the opposition for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th places and collecting very valuable points.”

Julie Rebek finished first place on the 1 meter diving board with a score of 268.20, and Therese Missiaen grabbed fourth with 223.73.

Following shortly after was the 200 yard freestyle, where Janelle Schulz placed first with a time of 1:54.96. Carly Plate and Mara Freeman finished one and two in the 50 yard backstroke, and Nhia Caras took the 50 yard freestyle crown with a time of 24.31.

Schulz grabbed her second win of the day in the 100 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 52.55 seconds. Plate and Freeman took first and second once again in the 100 yard backstroke, and Erika Thomas grabbed the top spot in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.81.

The Panthers finished the day on a high note, winning the 200 yard freestyle relay by nearly a full second to secure the victory over the Flames.

“Tomorrow will be interesting and exciting as well,” Clements added. “We head down to IUPUI very early in the morning and face some of the fastest teams in the Horizon League. It will be our first time on the road this season, and the first time ever for the freshmen. It’s a quick turnaround, but we are looking forward to taking part of a fast meet.”

Milwaukee hits the road Saturday to face IUPUI and Cleveland State in a tri-meet. The tri-meet will be the first conference competition of the season for the Panthers.

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men’s swimming & diving program defeated the visiting UIC Flames today by a final score of 156-144. The win marks the Panthers’ first victory over the Flames since 2021.

Starting the day strong was Milwaukee’s 200 yard medley relay team. Consisting of Hayden Christiansen, Andrew Jones, Nik Wheeler, and Ben Lorenz, the team finished first with a time of 1:33.85.

After a strong second place finish by Jay Jensen in the 1000 yard freestyle, Charlie House touched the wall with a time of 1:44.38 in the 200 yard freestyle, taking first. Wheeler added an individual win to his daily total, topping the field in the 100 yard butterfly.

Lorenz also added to his win total, taking first in the 50 yard freestyle. Finishing right behind him were Jackson Ahrens and Griffin Hawley, as Milwaukee managed to sweep the top three in the event.

House finished in the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle, and Christiansen took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 52.55. Jensen was the first to touch the wall in the 500 yard freestyle, and Wheeler added another win, this time in the 50 yard butterfly.

Capping the day with a win was Milwaukee’s 200 yard freestyle relay, touching the wall in a time of 1:24.44.

MILWAUKEE (Oct. 27, 2023) – The UIC swimming and diving programs went toe-to-toe against Milwaukee on the road but couldn’t fend off the Panthers as both the men’s (156-144) and women’s (157-143) teams were narrowly defeated in Friday’s meet.

“I’m so proud of the way this entire team competed tonight. It was extremely close the whole meet and our team never backed down. With the meet coming down to the last relay, it made for an extremely exciting environment. Although we didn’t come out on top, we saw several season-best performances tonight and I’m confident that we’re on the right track as a program.”

DIVING
Men’s

• Sophomore Harrison Nolan (Riverside, Ill./Kentucky) won both the three-meter (352.13 points) and the one-meter (322.13 points) diving board events at the meet. He has placed first in five of the six events he has competed in this year.
• Sophomore Bruno Carrillo (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) placed second in the one-meter diving board event with a score of 307.73 points. The mark qualified the Oak Forest native for the NCAA Division I Zone Diving Championships in March.

Women’s

• Sophomore Kerry-Leigh Morrison (Gauteng, South Africa/St Mary’s) won her third consecutive three-meter diving board event with a score of 281.03 points and placed second in the one-meter diving competition (246. 23)
• Junior Ciara McCliment (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) placed third in both events Friday evening, finishing with a score of 239.33 on the one-meter diving board and 251.18 points in the three-meter diving board event.

SWIMMING
Men’s

• Senior Ben Ramminger (Deforest, Wis./Deforest Area) earned first place finishes in both the 50 breast (26.62), 100 breast (58.03) and the 200 individual medley (1:55.07).
• Senior Liam Davis (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) had another strong showing in the pool Friday, finishing with a first-place finish in the 1,000 free (9:43.51).
• Junior Cory Michalek (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) won the 50 back, finishing at 24.02.
• The men’s meet came down to the 200 free relay. Davis, Michalek, senior Rafe Dolan Peterson (Austin, Minn./Austin) and freshman William Ridley (Klein, Texas/Klein Oak) finished in second place by less than a second to Milwaukee’s winning relay team (1:25.03).

Women’s

• Senior Izabella Del Rosario (South Elgin, Ill./Saint Charles North) collected her first event win of the season in the 100 Fly (57.96).
• Freshman Molly Kroeger (Easton, Md./Easton) finished first in the 500 free (5:11.63). Sophomore Madison Helmick (Bingham Farms, Mich./Birmingham Groves) finished seconds behind Kroeger in second place with a time of 5:16.07.
• Kroeger also finished first in the 1000 free earlier in the meet with a time of 10:37.84. Sophomore Brianna Corro (Muskego, Wis./Waukesha South) placed second in the race with a time of 10:50.36.
• With the team competition coming down to the 200 free relay as well, senior Jessica Phillips (Downers Grove, Ill./ Downers Grove North) and junior Kalie Landrum (Keller, Texas/Keller), Helmick and Del Rosario placed second in the event, finishing under a second behind a Milwaukee team with a time of 1:36.64.
