Question: Which of these Week 1 invites are you most excited for in the NCAA?
- Georgia Tech Invite (Florida, Georgia, Auburn, FSU, etc.) – 32.6%
- NC State (Wolfpack) Invite (NC State, Stanford, ASU, Duke, etc.) – 29.6%
- Tennessee Invite (Tennessee, UVA, Alabama, etc.) – 17.0%
- Ohio State Invite (OSU, Indiana, Kentucky, Pitt, VA Tech) – 15.0%
- Art Adamson Invite (Texas A&M, USC, LSU, etc.) – 5.9%
In one of the closer polls we’ve had recently, the Georgia Tech Invite edged out the NC State Invite for the top spot with 32.6 percent of votes.
The meet features SEC heavy-hitters Florida, Georgia and Auburn, plus FSU and the host Yellow Jackets.
After Day 1, the UGA women led the team scores with 393 points to Florida’s 348, while the Gator men put on a dominant display by winning every event to take an overwhelming lead.
A bit of the meet’s lustre was lost with the absence of Georgia sophomore Jake Magahey, while his teammate Luca Urlando missed the opening day but was back in the pool on Friday, qualifying for the ‘A’ final in the men’s 100 fly (45.67) and 100 back (47.82).
Kieran Smith has been the story of the meet thus far for the Gators, winning two individual and two relay events on Day 1 and racing three more times on Friday morning.
The runner-up spot in the poll went to the Wolfpack Invite, with NC State taking on the revamped Stanford women and Arizona State, which didn’t compete at all last season after redshirting its entire roster.
That meet has lived up to the hype through the opening day, with the Sun Devils, Cardinal and Wolfpack all swimming very well.
The Tennessee Invite, featuring the reigning NCAA women’s champions from UVA, picked up 17 percent of votes, while the Ohio State Invite garnered 15 percent. The Buckeyes are taking on Big Ten rival Indiana and SEC women’s champion Kentucky at that meet.
