2021 LEN EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Through 2 days of competition at the European Championships, the nations of Great Britain and Russia each check-in with 6 total medals to give them the edge over the Netherlands, Italy and Hungary among the top 5.

This evening in Budapest, GBR got on the board with 2 golden prizes, one courtesy of Adam Peaty in the men’s 100m breast (57.66) and the other via the mixed 800m free medley relay. In the latter event, the combination of Tom Dean, James Guy, Abbie Wood and Freya Anderson produced a new Championships record of 7:26.67 to beat the field handily at Duna Arena.

As for Russia, dynamo Kliment Kolesnikov not only reaped gold in the non-Olympic 50m backstroke event, but the 20-year-old did it by lowering his newly-minted World Record once again. Tonight, he brought it down to 23.80 in his podium-topping feat.

Additional winners included Dutch ace Ranomi Kromowidjojo snagging 50m free gold to pair with teammate Arno Kamminga‘s silver from the men’s 100m breast, while Italian Simona Quadarella snared gold in the 800m free.

Greece made history via Anna Ntountounaki‘s tie with French woman Marie Wattel in the 100m butterfly, with Greece winning its first-ever women’s top prize at a World Championships.
