Ryan Wochomurka Lays Out his Vision For Auburn Swimming

In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down with Ryan Wochomurka, the recently announced head coach for Auburn’s swim and dive program. Coach Wochomurka walks through how he views Auburn, his alma mater and somewhere he’s been familiar with since age 17, and what he sees as the path for the Tigers moving forward. He’s hoping to start announcing his staff by the end of this week as well as start meeting athletes and staff where they are now athletically, academically, and spiritually.

Just wondering why Garrett would ask so many questions about recruiting at auburn when he hasn’t even coached there for a season or been through a recruiting year at auburn.

I believe Coach W will have the tiiggers hitting on all cylinders within 2 years. They will be in the hunt for another SEC title in 4.

Not sure about this… Ryan comes off as being just a tad too laid back. Great guy, but what is needed there may be just too much for him to pull off. Are the resources available anywhere close to what Marsh had back in the day?

Why did the article of the girl who committed to auburn just get taken down?

Because she committed to the collegiate club program, and we mistakenly believed she was committing to the varsity program.

I really like his point of taking individual needs into account. Not every swimmer is the same! Excited to see what he does with this program.

No one in swimming media asks better questions than Garrett!

I understand downvotes because people #OnHere love to be contrarian, but I feel like there’s a lack of understanding and appreciation for what Garrett did with Flo Swimming and then Swimming World. Before Garrett, swim media/coverage was mediocre at best. In my opinion, there is no Swim Swam without what Garrett did in his media career.

I’m not a “Garrett Fanboy” and I don’t always agree with what he says/does, but his contributions to the sport are extremely underrated.

Totally agree with this. His Flo Swimming videos back in the day were really good. You could tell he (1) really knew swimming and (2) had trained to do broadcasting. And, before that, there was hardly any swimming media, especially video.

Have you heard about the podcast Brett Hawke’s been doing??
