AJ Carollo Makes Verbal Commitment to Saint Thomas (MN) for 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The University of Saint Thomas (MN) has received a verbal commitment from AJ Carollo beginning in the fall of 2020. Carollo attends Adlai E. Stevenson High School as well as swimming for Patriot Aquatic Club.

I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of St. Thomas (MN).  The coaching, school and close-knit team made me feel right at home.  I can’t wait to be a part of the Tommie family.  Roll Toms!

Carollo swims primarily freestyle and backstroke. Last spring, at the IHSA (Illinois High School) Boys State Championship he narrowly missed finals in the 100 back and 200 free, finishing 14th in the back (51.91) and 13th in the free (1:42.58). As a member of the 400 free relay, he split a 46.67 to help his team of Nick Comini, Jack Zhang, and Topher Stensby place 7th and win the B-final.

With his club team Carollo competed at the Illinois Swimming Senior Long Course Championships last spring. There, he was a finalist in the 200 free, finishing 25th with a time of 2:01.71.  Last summer at the Futures Championships-Des Moines he swam best times in the 100 free (54.56), 200 free (1:58.88), 100 back (1:01.13), and 200 back (2:18.69).

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 22.02
  • 100 free – 47.43
  • 200 free – 1:42.58
  • 100 back – 51.91

Carollo will be joining a Saint Thomas team that placed second at last years Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships. With his best times, he would have been an A-finalist in the 100 back and 200 free, as well as a B-finalist in the 100 free. He will be joining a backstroke group led by current Sophomore John Gahnz, who he will have two years of overlap with. Gahnz took third in the 100 back at the 2019 MIAC Championships. Saint Thomas is currently petitioning the NCAA to allow them to move to Division I.
