1. Vlad Morozov didn’t know he is a breastroker.

“Well, I didn’t know I could swim breaststroke that well… It’s an honour to race with these guys who are master of this stroke and you can imagine how happy I am now, but I have a relay to swim now.” said the Russian after his victory and new European and Championship record in the 50m breaststroke. And yes – he had to swim a relay about 10 minutes later, grabbed another gold and hammered the best split in 20,25 into the pool in Glasgow.

2. Katinka Hosszu is fine with her race.

“I’m fine with this race. Last Saturday I did weight trainings as I need to turn on my Olympic preparations. Since I knew that here it wasn’t going to be a world record anyway, I rather opted to come here from heavy loads and see how I could swim. Considering this, it feels OK now.” Hosszu took the win ahead of another Hungarian, Zsuzsanna Jakabos and Italian Ilaria Cusinato. It was Katinka Hosszu‘s fourth consecutive gold medal in the 400m IM.

3. Benedetta Pilato did it again … and again … and again.

“I’m super satisfied! I don’t know what to say. I’m lost for my emotions, I don’t know what to say. I really wanted to win this one!” 14-year-old Benedetta Pilato cracked the standard time of the World Junior Record in the 50m breastroke three times today. She won her first title at a major international meet in a time of 29,32 and can call herself now an European Champion.

4. Being the third fastest 400m SC freestyle swimmer in history is not enough for Danas Rapsys

“I’m having a long season because I’ve attended all meets of the World Cup. Those were long-course but I also like short-course. The world record? Maybe next time.” Danas Rapsys set a new Lithuanian and Championship record in the 400m freestyle. He now is behind France’s Yannick Agnel and Germany’s Paul Biedermann the third fastest performer all time in the SC 400m freestyle. Biedermann’s 400m freestyle Championship record was 10 years old.

5. Vlad Morozov always sets goals high.

“As a team we hoped to achieve a better time. The race was very close, though personally I can only show that I am satisfied with my two golds in one session and a new European record.” About 10 minutes after he won the 50m breaststroke in a new European record, the Russian and his teammates Vladislav Grinev, Mikhail Vekovishchev and Kliment Kolesnikov grabbed the European title in the 4x50m freestyle relay. Their time of 1:22,92 did not match their own expectations, France holds the European record with a time of 1:20,77.

6. Radoslaw Kawecki is back on the top in the 200m backstroke.

“I’m really happy because I won again, it’s a European gold but the time isn’t that good, it should have been better.” Radoslaw Kawecki won the European SC title in the 200m backstroke four times from 2011 to 2014, won the silver medal two years ago in Copenhagen and is now back again on top of the podium.
