Night one of the 2017 Christiansburg Sectional Championships began with the women’s 1650 freestyle where top seed Maggie Wallace claimed her first crown of the week. The 17 year old Wallace of Egg Harbor Township Seahawks claimed gold in a time of 16:27.07. Wallace was followed closely by Anna Kalandadze of Radnor Aquatic Club who claimed silver in a time of 16.29.98. Kalandadze dropped four seconds off of her time of 16:33.24 from the 2016 Winter Junior Nationals. Tennessee commit Amanda Nunan rounded out the top three finishers clocking a 16:40.08.

On the men’s side, night one of competition brought the 1000 freestyle, where Arthur Markley, who will be a Princeton Tiger in the fall, took home first place by over fourteen seconds by going a speedy 9:13.03. Markley, who currently swims at Lancaster Aquatic Club, was just off of his own personal best of 9:12.92 which was set at the 2016 MA Senior Championships. Finishing second in the event was Ethan Apisa at 9:27.47 and the bronze went to Bryce Ciecko who clocked a 9:30.82. Ciecko was able to knock nearly 30 seconds off of his seed time of 10:00.47.

Day two will feature the first day of prelims/finals competition. Prelims will begin at 9:00 am tomorrow and events will include:

  • Men’s and Women’s 200 yard Freestyle
  • Men’s and Women’s 100 yard Breaststroke
  • Men’s and Women’s 100 yard Butterfly
  • Men’s and Women’s 400 yard Individual Medley
  • Men’s and Women’s 800 yard Freestyle Relay
