2016 SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The women’s short course 200 backstroke is Kathleen Dawson‘s latest national record-slashing victim, as the 19-year-old scored a new mark while competing in prelims of the event this morning in Windsor.  Swimming in heat 5 at the 2016 Short Course World Championships, Dawson threw down a lifetime best of 2:05.12 to capture the 8th and final spot for tonight’s final.

Heading into Windsor, Dawson’s previous 200 scm backstroke record stood at the 2:06.05, a mark she set just last month while competing at this year’s British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships. Prior to that, Dawson’s personal best was 2:06.74 she swam in June of 2015 in Toronto.

Establishing herself as one of Great Britain’s premier backstrokers, Dawson owns Scotland’s national records in the 50m/100m/200m backstroke events across both SCM and LCM.

While competing at her first senior European Championships meet this past summer, Dawson took bronze in the 100m backstroke event (59.58).  She also won gold as a member of Great Britain’s 400m medley relay squad.
