The Ohio State Buckeyes will be hosting their annual Ohio State Invitational this weekend, with the action taking place from Friday, November 18th through Sunday, November 20th. Start times for prelims/finals vary throughout the weekend, with the sessions starting a little bit earlier as the meet progresses. Teams from several different conferences will be attending, including the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac-12.
Start Times (EST):
- Friday- Prelims 11 a.m., Finals 6 p.m.
- Saturday- Prelims 10 a.m., Finals 5 p.m.
- Sunday- Prelims 9 a.m., Finals 3 p.m.
There will be 7 Rio Olympians competing in the invite. While the Stanford women have typically competed in the Art Adamson Invite at mid-season, they’ve opted to make the trip to Ohio this season. That means U.S. Olympic freestyle champion Katie Ledecky will be swimming in her first-ever collegiate invite in Columbus this weekend. Also joining in on the action will be Simone Manuel, the 100 free Olympic champion.

If Amanda Weir and Carla Wynn swam for Stanford, they could have a freestyle relay consisting of:
“Hu, Wynn, Weir, and Howe.”

Ledecky is entered in the 500 free, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 free, and 200 fly (I couldn’t find the psych sheet for the 1650 which she is presumably also swimming).
I am constantly in awe of how Katie takes expectations in stride. I keep trying to imagine myself at that age and what I would have done if I was the headliner for every single moment in my life. I never could have handled it. Not to mention doing this while being a first-semester freshman at an elite school like Stanford–I have no idea how she fits it all in. It seemed like her schedule was full last year with just training and no classes (except for 2 in the fall).
Katie seems to TRULY love swimming (remember the early 8 & under video of her beaming face after swimming a 25y free race?) and loves to compete too. Very mature swimmer / athlete. IMHO, that goes a long way to overcoming the “butterflies” we have all felt.
I’m wondering how many events can a swimmer swim at the invite? Does it have the rule no more than 3 individual events like in the dual meet or no limit?
I think it’s just depends on the invite. They can all have their own rules.
