Hosszu and Jakabos Go Head-to-Head On Day 2 of Hungarian SC Nationals

Fresh off her 2016 FINA World Cup Series title, Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu continued her strong showing at the 2016 Hungarian Short Course Nationals today, winning multiple events on day 2. Three of her wins came against fellow Rio Olympians, the first of which was the 800 free. In that race, Hosszu powered to an 8:13.56 to finish ahead of Olympic medalist Boglarka Kapas (8:15.25).

Hosszu then battles with Zsuzsanna Jakabos in a pair of events. First they went head-to-head in the 200 fly, with Hosszu winning in 2:06.35 ahead of Jakabos’ 2:07.44. They then faced off in the 100 free, with both swimmers getting to the wall in under 54 seconds. Hosszu again came to the wall first, touching in 53.08 to beat out Jakabos (53.59).

In addition to those races, Hosszu also picked up victories in the 100 back (59.16) and 50 fly (26.09).

On the men’s side, World Championship sivler medalist David Verraszto battled with Peter Bernek and Gergely Gyurta in the 400 IM. Verraszto emerged victorious in that event, picking up a 4:03.22 victory ahead of Bernek’s 4:04.84. Gyurta rounded out the top 3 in that race, dipping under 4:10 with his 4:09.62 for bronze.
