Junior Nationals Qualifier Colin Duffy Commits To UW-Milwaukee

The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee will be adding another new name to their lineup next season, as Badger Aquatics Club’s Colin Duffy has given his verbal commitment to join the Panthers next season. Duffy, a native of Waunakee, Wisconsin, will be staying in state when he heads to campus next season after graduating from Waunakee Community High School.

Duffy has qualified to swim at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I State Championships for the past 3 years in a row, and is serving as his high school team captain this season. At the 2016 state meet, Duffy swam to a top 10 finish in the 500 free. He then went on to compete at the short course Wisconsin Senior State Championships, earning a pair of bronze medals with his performances in the 1000 free and 1650 free.

During the long course season, Duffy started to show significant signs of improvement, lowering several of his best times by large margins. At the long course version of the Wisconsin Senior State meet, he was a 2-time champion with his performances in the 800 meter free (8:36.43) and 1500 meter free (16:35.25).

Duffy’s Top Times:

Event SCY Time LCM Time
200 free  1:46.81  1:59.43
400/500 free  4:44.84  4:08.69
1500/1650 free  16:20.33  16:31.16
100 fly  52.90  57.92
200 fly  1:57.04  2:07.72

Duffy’s time in the 1650 freestyle should help him have an immediate impact for the team at the Horizon League Championships, as he’s already fast enough to score. While his yards times in his other events aren’t fast enough to score at the conference meet yet, his performances during the long course season indicate that he’s ready for some big drops, so we could see him scoring for UW-Milwaukee in multiple events as a freshman.
