The brand new Royal Arena, home of the 2017 European Short Course Championships, is on schedule to open its doors to the public before the end of 2016. The newly constructed facility is situated in Copenhagen, Denmark and will play host to the aforementioned meet slated for December 13th-17th next year.

The arena, designed by company 3XN, can house up to 16,000 spectators in a variety of formats, making the space usable for concerts and sporting events. For the European Championships in particular, an additional 6,500 spectators can be accommodated via floor space.

Design-wise, team 3XN describes its vision as keeping in line with the nation’s Nordic identity, while also incorporating modern comfort, acoustics and functionality. You can see their initial renderings of the arena via the video below.

Although still over a year away, fans and athletes can begin exploring the European Short Course Championships website at euroswim2017.com. The site will be continually updated with information concerning both international and national fans, athletes, coaches and team leaders. Tickets, program information and general news will be announced via the website in the lead-up to next year’s event.
