Kira Toussaint broke a meet record at the first session of the Dutch National Championships, known as the Eindhoven Swim Cup.
Toussaint, still representing her American collegiate team, the University of Tennessee, went 1:00.51 to take the top seed in in the women’s 100 back. That leaves Toussaint just about half a second off the Dutch national record in the event.
Reigning Olympic sprint champ Ranomi Kromowidjojo got off to a fast start, going a season-best 24.67 to lead the women’s 50 free. Kromowidjojo moves to #6 in the world for this season with that swim.

There’s a sizable foreign contingent competing in Eindhoven as well. Most notable from that group on day 1 was Danish world record-holding breaststroker Rikke Moller Pedersen, who topped the 200 breast prelims in 2:26.74. That was a pretty relaxed morning swim, a good three seconds off her season best from a month ago.
Hungary’s Evelyn Verraszto also led an event, going 1:00.10 in the 100 fly. That leaves her just a tenth up on Austria’s Birgit Koschischek (1:00.20).
Another tight race is set up in the men’s 200 IM. Pavel Janecek is the top seed in 2:02.22, breaking the Czech record in the event. He now holds the 200 and 400 IM records nationally. But Dutch world champs team member Kyle Stok is just behind in 2:02.44.
Other top seeds out of prelims:
- Dutch national Maarten Brzoskowski was 3:52.96 to lead the men’s 400 free over Germany’s Jacob Heidtmann and Serbia’s Velimir Stjepanovic.
- Teimuraz Kobakhidze of Georgia led the men’s 200 fly in 2:02.94.
- In the men’s 50 free, Jesse Puts is the top seed with a 22.37, just beating Suriname’s Renzo Tjon-A-Joe (22.40).
- Laura van Engelen won the women’s 1500 free in 17:29.57.
