The University of Missouri swimming and diving teams won 22 out of 26 events yesterday in their dual against Missouri State. The Tigers ended up with a 188-51 victory on the women’s side and a 152-84 victory on the men’s side.
Women’s Meet
The Mizzou women swept first and second places in both relays. Their ‘A’ 400 medley team of Nadine Laemmler, Abby Duncan, Erin Metzger-Seymour, and Anna Patterson won the 400 medley in 3:43.98, followed by their ‘B’ team in 3:49.47. The Tiger 200 free relay team of Rachel Hayden, Iliana Jones, Maddie Gehrke, and Patterson won that event in 1:34.07, followed by Mizzou’s ‘B’ team in 1:37.37.
Mizzou sophomores Kira Zubar and Sharli Brady each grabbed double wins. Zubar’s came in the 1000 (10:14.27) and 500 freestyles (5:03.36), while Brady finished first in the 400 IM (4:20.55) and the 200 fly (2:01.19).
Their teammate and fellow sophomore Rachel Hayden won the 200 free in 1:53.49, and finished as the 100 freestyle runner-up with 51.98. Iliana Jones took the win in that event, beating out Hayden by one one-hundredth with 51.97.
Mizzou’s Gehrke won the 50 free in 23.81, and her teammate Patterson came up second with 23.85.
Alexa Beckwith and Madeline McKernan of Mizzou won the diving events. Beckwith took the 1 meter with 303.40 points, and McKernan won the 3 meter with 300.15.
The 200 back went to Laemmler in 1:59.15, and Duncan won the 200 breast in 2:11.94.
The Bears had multiple runner-up finishes in individual events, including second places from Heather Snyder in the 500 free (5:10.21) and 1000 free (10:19.78), Josie Pearson in the 400 IM (4:29.74), and Dora Kiss in the 200 fly (2:05.23).
Men’s Meet
The Mizzou men also won both relays. Their 400 medley team of Carter Griffin, Fabian Schwingenschlogl, Andrew Sansoucie, and Matthew Margritier won their event in 3:17.91, nearly four seconds ahead of the Missouri State team’s 3:21.54. The Mizzou ‘A’ 200 free relay of Margritier, Christian Aragona, Sansoucie, and Luke Mankus won in 1:22.22, and their ‘B’ team finished second in 1:25.36.
Mincki Kang of Missouri State won both of his individual events, posting the most individual points for his team. His 1000 free time, 9:18.40, was eighteen seconds ahead of the runner-up, and he won the 500 free by five seconds in a time of 4:34.92.
Margritier of Mizzou grabbed his third win of the meet with a 20.55 in the 50 free, half a second ahead of his second-place teammate Aragona.
Daniel Graviss scored big points for Mizzou with a first place finish in the 400 IM, a 3:58.02 narrowly ahead of Missouri State’s Uvis Kalnins‘s 3:58.31, and a second-place in the 200 fly (1:50.31). Kalnins came back in with a win in the 100 free (44.71).
Missouri State’s Artur Osvath beat out Graviss in the 200 fly with 1:50.16.
Tiger diver Clark Thomas swept his events with 382.15 in the 1 meter event and 378.15 in the 3 meter.
Mizzou’s Sam Coffman won the 200 free in 1:42.59, after a close battle with Missouri State’s Michael Mollak, who finished in 1:42.65.
Mizzou’s other wins came from Schwingenschlogl in the 200 breast (2:00.78) and Griffin in the 200 back (1:49.38).
This Thursday, January 28th, the University of Missouri will host Vanderbilt. Next weekend, the Missouri State men will head to South Bend, Indiana for the Shamrock Invitational.
