Zips Competed in Head-to-Head Long Course Dual with Bowling Green

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron swimming and diving team competed in a long-course head-to-head Olympic time-trial dual against Bowling Green State University this afternoon at the Ocasek Natatorium.

Freshman Sadie Fazekas, a native of Windsor, Ontario, swam the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:01.08. Fazekas’ time was .08 of a second below the Olympic standard qualifying time of 1:01.19. Her time is tied for the 12th fastest time by a Canadian this year.

Freshman Madison Myers (Akron, Ohio) just missed the qualifying time of 1:03.39 in the 100-meter backstroke by .56 of a second finishing in 1:03.95.

Four Zips were less than one second away from swimming under the qualifying time of 26.19 in the 50-meter freestyle. Myers touched in second at 26.67, followed by freshman Ragen Engel (Springfield, Ohio) in third (26.69), Fazekas (26.71) and sophomore Susan Franz (Canton, Ohio) 26.75.

The Zips return to competition after the New Year on January 16, at Youngstown State in a head-to-head dual against the Penguins.
