Utah Swimming and Diving Take On UC Davis and UNLV

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah swimming and diving team welcomes UC Davis and UNLV this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7 at the Ute Natatorium. The women’s squad will take on UCD this Friday at 4 p.m. MT. The entire squad will then be in the pool against UNLV on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT.

MACIAS NAMED TO PAC-12 STUDENT ATHLETE LEADERSHIP TEAM

Utah student-athlete Luis Macias recently represented the university at the Pac-12 Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) meetings.

Macias, a member of the Mexican Junior National squad, swims for the Utes and earned a top-20 finish in the 200 fly at last season’s Pac-12 Championships. Prior to Utah, Macias was a medalist at the North American Challenge Cup and competed at the FINA World Junior Championships.

The Pac-12 Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) officially joined the Pac-12 Athletics Directors, Faculty Athletics Representatives, and Senior Woman Administrators as the newest subgroup of the Pac-12 Council. The Pac-12 is the first major conference to formally integrate the student-athlete perspective into its official voting governance structure.

UTAH NOTES

The Ute women are looking for their first win of the season after a pair of losses to FGCU (165-135) and Boise State (158-141).

The Utes finished with three first-place finishes against FGCU and Boise State. Amanda Casillas took top honors in both the one-meter and three-meter diving event. In the one-meter, she tallied a total score of 290.85 and in the three-meter, 287.00.

Adding to the win total was Genevieve Robertson in the 200 breast touching in at 2:16.63. Robertson currently has the fourth-fastest time in the event at 2:14.29 which she did against Cal.

The men’s squad has been on break from competition for the past few weeks but head back to the pool with a No. 27 national ranking. Last time out, they suffered a pair of losses to Pac-12 foes Cal (165-128) and Stanford (164-125).

During the meet against Cal, Bence Kiraly claimed first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:28.04. Josiah Purss captured both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with a score of 363.08 and 362.70, respectively

Kiraly also took first the 500 free with the best time in the Pac-12 this season (4:25.76) versus Stanford. He also took first in the 1,000 free (9:07.93), setting a new 2015-16 Pac-12 mark by almost three seconds.

LOOKING AT THE OPPONENTS

The UC Davis women are coming off a win against Loyola Marymount (160-112) while UNLV recently lost to ASU (W, 181-117; M, 202-95).

UP NEXT

The team will travel to Texas on Nov. 19-21 where they will compete in the Art Adamson Invitational.
