Giordano Again Named ACC’s Male Diver of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville swimmer Andrea Cottrell, Virginia Tech diver Ashlynn Peters, Georgia Tech swimmer Moises Loschi and Pitt diver Dom Giordano were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

Cottrell took ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors after leading the Cardinals to a first-place finish at the SMU Classic this past weekend against a competitive field. The junior posted two individual victories, finishing with NCAA B-cut times and meet records in both races. Cottrell’s 200 breast time of 2:08.63 and her 100 breast time of 59.58 are both the fastest times in the country, while her performance in the 100 breast made her the only woman in the history of the meet to go under one minute. She also competed in three relays, helping her teams to first place finishes in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 medley relay. Cottrell’s 200 medley relay team posted an NCAA B-cut time and meet record of 1:38.24, while her 400 medley relay team finished in 3:32.36, the first NCAA A-cut time in the nation and a meet record.

Peters swept the diving events in Virginia Tech’s dual meets against Penn State and West Virginia to earn ACC Female Diver of the week honors. The freshman opened her career as a Hokie by posting four NCAA zone qualifying scores, finishing with 1-meter scores of 301.72 and 312.45 and 3-meter scores of 325.58 and 319.00. At West Virginia, Peters’ performance on the 1-meter board broke a pool record that was previously set in 2011.

Loschi was named this week’s ACC Male Swimmer of the Week after posting three individual victories and two additional top three finishes over the weekend. The sophomore touched first in the 400 IM in Georgia Tech’s dual meet against West Virginia, finishing in 4:00.16. He then finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 56.43. Against Pitt, Loschi finished first in both the 1000 free (9:15.90) and the 200 breast (2:01.61), before finishing third in the 200 IM (1:53.39). He has registered six individual wins this season.

Giordano earned ACC Male Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season after sweeping the diving events in the Panthers’ dual meet against Georgia Tech. The junior’s score of 439.73 in the 3 meter set a new program record and broke a 17-year-old pool record set by Miami’s Rio Ramirez in 1998. Giordano also set a new personal best in the 1 meter with a score of 368.55, topping his previous best set at Duke on October 3.
