Utah Defeats Oregon State

The Utah women claimed a 141 to 115 victory against the Oregon State Beavers Friday at the Ute Natatorium.

“I thought it was good. We hadn’t won a women’s meet in a while. We have been on a skid,” said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra in a statement to Utah Athletics. “It was nice only to get a win but to have a real comfortable win where we were able to exhibition some events and really feel good about ourselves.”

The Utes kicked off the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay, with the A team (1:44.84) and B team (1:46.09) touching first and second, respectively. Oregon State’s A team was third in 1:47.49.

Oregon State’s Sammy Harrison won her first of three events in the 1000 Free (10:07.62) ahead of Utah’s Selin Ozturk (10:45.06). Oregon State freshman Emma Osowski finished just behind for third in 10:47.53.

Harrison went on to win the 200 Free in 1:51.60, almost three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Utah freshmen teammates Madelynn Meisel (1:54.08) and Hailey Pabst (1:55.55) followed up for second and third.

Utah freshman Megan Kawaguchi took the top spot in the 100 Back (56.47) ahead of a 2-3-4 Oregon State finish by teammates Sophie MacEwan (58.78), Amani Amr (58.79) and Tair Maimon (1:01.35).

The Utes continued their streak with a first-place finish in the 100 Breast by Stina Colleou (1:03.97). Oregon State’s Czsarina Isleta touched second in 1:05.65 ahead of Utah’s Brianna Francis (1:06.19).

Utah’s Petra Soininen took home a win for the Utes in the 200 Fly (2:05.91) ahead of Oregon State’s Brooke Meyer (2:10.34). Ute Melissa Paakh was third in 2:11.05.

Utah took a 1-2 sweep of the 50 Free, with teammates Madeline Jamora (23.58) and Giuliana Gigliotti (23.99) taking first and second, respectively. Oregon State’s Claire McLaggan took third in 24.89.

Gigliotti went on to take home a victory for the Utes in the 100 Free (51.99) ahead of freshman teammate Dorien Butter (52.56). Oregon State’s Constance Toulemonde followed up for third in 53.20.

Utah freshmen teammates Hailey Pabst (2:05.48) and Megan Kawaguchi (2:06.06) took a 1-2 finish in the 200 Back. Oregon State junior Amani Amr took third in 2:07.96.

Utah’s Stina Colleou completed a sweep of the breaststroke events with a win in the 200 Breast (2:18.49) ahead of Oregon State’s Czsarina Isleta (2:22.54). Utah’s Brianna Francis was third in 2:22.97.

Oregon State’s Sammy Harrison won her third event of the meet in the 500 Free (4:55.09) ahead of a 2-3-4 Utah finish by teammates Madelynn Meisel (5:06.43), Maryssa McArthur (5:12.73) and Kat Wickham (5:12.79).

The Utes took a 1-2 sweep of the 100 Fly, with Utah senior Melissa Pakh (57.00) touching first just four one-hundredths of a second ahead of teammate Petra Soininen (57.04). Oregon State’s Brooke Meyer was third in 58.48.

Oregon State’s Andrea Young (2:14.14) claimed a win for the Beavers in the 200 IM. Her teammates Czsarina Isleta (2:16.59) and Corrine Shigeta (2:17.03) were second and third, respectively.

The Beavers finished off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Free Relay, with their A team swimming to a 1:37.84.
