Air Force Men, Northern Arizona Women Lead Through Day 2 of WAC

The Northern Arizona Women maintained a lead over Northern Colorado, while the Air Force men took the top of the score board over Wyoming during the second night of the Western Athletic Conference.

New Mexico State’s Amina Gummesson claimed a win in the first event of the night in the 500 Free, swimming to a 4:50.94 ahead of Northern Colorado’s Carleigh Barrett (4:53.52) and Northern Arizona’s Kendall Brown (4:54.13). On the men’s side, Bakersfield’s Mitchell Huxhold took the event in an NCAA B cut of 4:17.37 ahead of Air Force teammates Kevin Jackson (4:21.32) and Alex Strom (4:23.04).

Grand Canyon teammates Hannah Kastigar (1:59.11) and Iryna Glavnyk (2:01.47) completed a 1-2 sweep of the women’s 200 IM. Idaho senior Rachel Millet  was third in 2:02.23. Grand Canyon continued their momentum into the men’s event, with junior Iegor Lytvenok touching first in 1:44.29 ahead of Wyoming’s Adam Kalms (1:46.91) and Air Force’s Michael Barnosky (1:48.39).

North Dakota junior Courtney Funk took the women’s 50 Free with an NCAA B cut of 22.85 ahead of Idaho senior Erica Anderson (23.44). Following up for third was Northern Arizona’s Roni Houck in 23.59. On the men’s side, UNLV took a 1-2-3 sweep with Dillon Virva leading the charge in an NCAA A cut of 19.17. His teammates Tom Paco-Pedroni (19.72) and Or Sebastier (19.87) followed up for second and third, respectively.

The North Dakota A team took the women’s 200 Free relay in 1:32.86 ahead of Bakersfield’s A team (1:33.00) and Idaho’s A team (1:33,71). In the men’s event, UNLV’s A team took the top spot in a pool and WAC record of 1:17.44. Following up for second was the Air Force A team in 1:19.51.

Northern Arizona’s Chelsea Jackson scored the top spot in the 3-meter event (308.95 points), while Air Force’s Nathaniel Zillweger took the 1-meter for the men (323.85 points).
